Help Will I Be Able To Switch Off LTE But Not HSPA+?

I was wondering if with the AT&T LTE Note will I be able to control the different data connections independently (3G, HSPA+, LTE)? Cause I would probably turn off LTE if I'm not streaming music because it uses more battery but still use HSPA+ because it's good for battery life. Just curious if this is possible. Thanks!
 
I doubt this as I couldn't do it with my Skyrocket I had briefly... I would hope though that they would allow it. No need for LTE when you have wifi. I think LTE is only needed for travelling.

Well for starters with a 2500 mAh battery, I don't think you need to worry about battery life too much. But anyways, I do remember there being an app that would switch your data connection from 3G to edge to save battery life, so I'm sure there is/will be an update of that application. Just try to peruse the app store when you get the Note.
 
Does it have a 4G widget like my Evo and Evo 3D do? I'm a nut about getting the max out of my battery so if I'm wondering around the mall or something I'll turn off 4G cause I'm not using it.

I'll get back to you on that when I actually have the Note in my hand haha. I mean it really is gonna just be until we actually have it in our hands that we will know. I would highly suggest that there WILL be an application or widget to do so.

There is no toggle.

I should have time in hand again tomorrow if there is anything else you guys want me to check
 
Looks like I'll be rooting then. I like having control of my radios. It's kinda lame that they don't let you do that stock.

It does not benefit them to. it helps de congested the network

So far with the skyrocketed we are able to do it with root, but it requires running Rom based on the Canadian telus release

I guess you say that because they have more hspa+ phones out than LTE? Either way they don't have that many 4G phones out there.

You can turn off 4G in general though right?

They have made this very confusing ...

They don't have many LTE phones out there YET...but over time the addition of more markets and phones will relieve the other networks.

Data can be turned of ...without root you can not pick and choose which you connect to

The phone will auto switch from 2g/3g/4g/lte as needed
 
I don't have much experience with GSM/LTE phone. But from what I understand, LTE is evolution of UMTS/HSPA technique. So I heard that transition between 3G/HSPA+ and LTE is more seamingless than CDMA to LTE using two separate radio chips. If HSPA and LTE connections are from the same integrated radio chip, turning off LTE only might not be possible easily.

Thanks for the heads up. It's kind of disappointing as I've had an Evo 4G and an Evo 3D and they both have the 4G widget already on the homescreen the first time you turn it on. Wimax is quite different though so maybe with hspa+ and LTE they're better at this sort of thing, like Sandroidfan just said.
 
I'm new to Android and I was wondering when the Note upgrades to Ice Cream Sandwich, will the option to turn off 4G LTE be possible?

The Galaxy Nexus has the toggle option to do it.
 
Has anyone come across a way to do this yet? I just picked up my LTE Note yesterday and I'm concerned about future battery life. While I typically stay around "3 or 4 bars" of LTE in my area (DC/Balt. corridor), and Speed Test DL results between 10Mbps and 58Mbps, the dBm levels typically are around (-91) and (-105) for most of the day.

Historically, with my other phones, these numbers usually mean less than 18hrs of "my normal use". I'm mainly worried about those out of the ordinary days, when I'm not able to be near an outlet, and have heavier use than normal. Especially when the HSPA signal is in the (-50) to (-60) range for the same areas.

I'm sure I'll just get a second or extended battery as before, but still. FWIW, I've been trying to get to some of the more hidden settings via shortcuts with AnyCut, and Launcher Pro, but haven't found anything "yet".
 
Wound up adding 2nd APN using my "Media Net" settings. Fairly stable @ "4 bars"/-85dBm. Hopefully battery drain will slow.
 
Yeah I haven't seen any way to do this yet but I'll probably root after we get ICS anyways and with that we should have a way. It has been nice these past few months not having to worry about switching radios on and off, other than wifi of course.
