Greetings!
Love my Bionic. I've had it since December 2011.
Great phone, but like everyone here, I've been putting up with some annoying issues!
-The phone still drops data constantly, and will not find GPS, especially when I need it most. I depend on the navigation function daily.
-The phone volume will not change during a call unless you pull the headset away, let the screen light up, then you can adjust the volume.
-When I add a contact from Google Maps, the contact is added to my list, but when searching, the contact is not found (using magnifying glass (Google search) or contact search field). I have to scroll through the contact list to find it.
Other things I put up with for way too long before rooting to solve the issues. I don't think you should have to root a device just to get it to function properly:
-I listen to Audible (Audio books) almost daily. Every time I would pause the audiobook via bluetooth headset, the music player would start. Same thing would happen when ending a phone call when on bluetooth. Fricken music player blasts music in your ears when you are not expecting it! After trying several fixes unsuccessfully, I rooted the phone after several months of putting up with this. Then used titanium backup to "freeze" the damn music app. Problem gone! There is a huge issue on Google (issue #5134). This happens across phones and is not just the bionic having the issue. Google has done nothing to address it as far as I can tell.
-Some months ago we lost separate navigation volume on the maps app. Also the navigation voice speaks over whatever audio is playing (Sirius or rhapsody) it does pause Audible, or rather, maybe audible responds (pauses) to the navigation. Prior to rooting, my solution was to uncheck automatic updates, and install Maps app 5.8.0. I worked great until it automatically updated anyway. After rooting, I broke the market link with Titanium, again installed 5.8.0... still automatically updated. I then used Titanium to freeze the latest updated Maps app, then installed the old 5.8.0 again. Problem gone!
-Now, after rooting, I have significant battery drain! I froze some of the bloatware as well as items mentioned above. When I check the battery drain statistics, the main power consumption is: screen, dolphin browser and android os. I'm willing to live with it to have a device that functions the way it should.
I know the Data, GPS, and Phone Volume issues are Bionic specific. Not sure about the Contact search issue. The Bluetooth issue with the music player starting, and navigation volume/ pause is certainly an android operating system issue, and not bionics fault.
The question is: Does ICS fix any of these issues? Do I need to root again after the ICS update to have a device that functions properly?
Thanks! Love the Bionic and android phones in general. But this has been extremely frustrating!
Hoping that ICS is the answer!
