Root Will Root help me unlock my carrier on x8?

Hi! New to this forum I was wondering if I root my x8 is there a way to unlock my carrier? its on o2 in uk. I really don't fancy payin the

No as far as I understand it, rooting and unlocking are two seperate issues.
