Root will rooting get me what im looking for?

so i love all the things i can do with my evo, but there are a few i havent been able to do and im wondering if rooting will change that? theyre just minimal things like change the lock screen, change the status bar to a different color, change the battery color, be able to edit the fonts. simple things like this. will i be able to do any of these things if i root???
 
head over to the XDA forum and you'll find ALL these things in different roms check them all out i personally love Damage Control and after you flash that you'll be able to change colors, get the droidx keyboard, sywpe, its great

The roms have that built in? Very nice.

I haven't gotten that far...
 
my only other question is, if i do flash over a custom rom can i still change the wallpaper and use bettercut to use different icons as shortcuts?

Just a head's up for others: You can get the DroidX keyboard without root. Find the apk and install.
