Root Will rooting help with phone

I love my Eris...except the actual phone part. The lag when making back to back calls, and now it does not even ring sometimes. I have never rooted a phone, but am now considering trying it.
Will rooting solve the phone issues? I am out of my warranty, but still hope to not end up with a brick. I keep reading threads, but am getting very confused.
Any advice would be apprecitated......

Oh yes. Seriously. We should have a sticky on the front page that says "New Eris users, consider trying root".

If you want an UI sort of like the stock one, so you don't have to get used to stock Android, I recommend xtrSense 4.6.5. He's essentially perfected it now and it is a GREAT ROM. Its on my mom's Eris, and she can't even tell the difference between this and stock, other than the fact that its faster.

thanks for the quick reply. So I just go to the one-click, download it to my computer, hook my phone to the computer then drag it to the sd card. Is this correct? sorry....I am completely lost with this. And I have read the 1 click thread!!!

You download the one click app from the market to your phone. No PCs are required. Just download the app to your phone, and then follow the instructions listed in the one-clock app thread.
