Root Will rooting improve 3G speeds??

I currently have the EVO with Android 2.2 and build version 3.29.
My data speed is horrible? 90% of time I get 300-400 kbps on inetworktest.com/android/test
Some random times I get 800-1000 when I am driving.
Is it the phone, OS or Sprint??? I live in the Detroit metro area.

Can I root and go back to Android 2.1 and will anything improve????

Speed issues are generally going to be an issue of the network provider.

However, 300-400 with occasional 800-1000 is pretty good for 3g. If you're looking for 4g kind of speeds, perhaps use 4g.

I think 1,000 (1mbps) is actually even the top advertised 3g speed. You're not going to get it faster than it's capable of!
 
Is your internet browsing experience painfully slow or are you just relying and some speed test to tell you something is wrong??? If your speed using a real browser going to a real website is sufficient, what is the problem??? Everybody gets so hung up on numbers.

lately I am lucky to get over 100 ....3g or 4g lol
 
Internet is slow, I have a buddy that has Samsung captiva with ATT and standing beside me doing a speedtest he gets more than double my speed and if we try to open a site like Yahoo his is twice as fast. I dont care about the numbers it just sucks how much faster ATT is over Sprint, yet Sprint sells you on how fast their crappy service is.
 
To be honest, I have absolutely no clue what speeds I am getting....I just know my phone works quite well on the internet...
 
Ok, I missed the 90%. None the less, I doubt you'll see any change in speed by rooting. Rooting doesn't really change the properties of the radio.

for the most part (unless I am having one of those unlucky 100kbps moments) my tests like this have been the exact opposite.

att running between 300-500 and my phone running between 500-800

I did have recent tests on 3g that were 1422 dload but only 99 up

but last week was awful

I'm not sure about elsewhere, but in my area, ATT is faster than Sprint when doing speed tests (which i don't have alot of faith in anyways). My friend's iPhone4 on 3G will show speeds comparable to my Evo when i'm on a wireless network. But side by side, each loading the same page or running some real world test of speeds, his isn't any faster at all and i still get better coverage :p
