Help Will Skype work with my front camera?

Will Skype like my front facing camera, or must I use Qik for all video calls/chats?

Also, a little off topic, does the front facing camera work well with Rooting and other ROMs?

Skype hasn't released a version of skype on android that support video calling, but im pretty sure it was announced. They're working on it now, so just hold tight. And if you want to do video calling with something other than qik, try fring. It's not the best, but it lets you video chat through multiple programs, and even with iphones.

Skype acquired Qik recently.

Skype - The Big Blog - The Qik acquisition is complete

So for sure, it will be using the technology Qik is using now but brand as Skype.

I heard that this is going to take a while before the Qik software and the Skype software are integrated.

I think what the OP is really looking for is a way to do a videochat between a computer and your phone. I'm still waiting for a solution as well, and as far as I know there is none yet. I think waiting for Yahoo! Messenger will be our best bet, as video chat is available for both and both are available for both devices.

Video Phones have been possible for decades, SO WHY ARE WE STILL WAITING?

With the capabilities of these smartphones now, there is no excuse for not having a good video call app. on the phone.

I use Skype on my pc every day because I have family and friends in far off places. I have been using video conferencing software on the pc for over 10 years. I remember when the hottest video conf. software at the time was called Iphone (later became Paltalk). If we have had video conf. software on the pc for over 10 years, WHY IS IT SUCH A HASSLE TODAY for Skype to make some real strides? Why are we still waiting for the only (why only?) major video conf. software provider to figure out how to put this on a phone where it belongs? Why does Skype pretend like this is all cutting edge. In my opinion, Skype hasn't really done much at all to improve the video call experience in the last 10 years. Before Skype came along, video conference software had everything it has today; with screen sharing, file transfers, and even multiple video feeds (skype still won't give ya that!). All it has done to help the situation is become more mainstream by it's integration into the old school phone system... so that this way there is a better chance your friends and family might be hip to trying it.

VoiceOverIP has been pretty standard for a while now. Isn't it about time Video&VoiceOverIP was standard too?

Google has voice and video chat. Cmon Google, set the standard for video calls, please!

I just hope we get some real healthy competition in the area video conf. software and see Skype just disappear. They have been on top for too long, dragging their feet with their buggy and non-innovative software.

Didn't want to quote the wall-o-text above, but it was a good wall-o-text!!

Apple tried to make iPhone4 video calling so crippled that it was, ultimately, useless. ONLY able to call other iPhone4's and MUST be over wifi? Seriously? Damn Apple and AT&T...

Now, Android is getting a serious leg up with the ability to video over 3G/4G and/or Wifi. They use Qik, so there is standardization there. There are other apps and now Skype bought Qik, we'll see how that goes.

Google's flagship now is Android. So why not add it to G-Talk or something else? Why do the work when someone else has done it (Qik, Yahoo and the like) and someone else (Skype) is working hard on it?

Google is not as bad as Apple with a rigid standard for the OS, but they are slow to support things they promised to support. Wait for others to do it and see if they can do it better and cheaper (free) to put them in their place.

Whatever.

I've tried Y! Messenger to video chat with my son at home on his computer from my phone, and it works fine. It even uses the front camera.
