Will Swype work on the Galaxy Nexus?

Has anyone tried to install Swype on this phone? If so does it work? I was unsure if Swype may have had to update to be compatible with ICS. I don't know if I could make it without Swype. I have my Galaxy Nexus on reserve for first thing tomorrow morning!

its possible that you will encounter a lot of apps that need to be updated. Until this phone hits the streets and gets a million hands on it the App makers really don't know what all might break.

FWIW i'll be trying swype as well at some point.

it will be the first thing I try and download unless someone who has a GSM version or someone who was able to wrestle one away from BB early has tried it and tells me that it doesn't work

I've been wondering about Swype too -- my version works (for the Droid X) but it's been really acting strange since I rooted (the dictionary refuses to type "That's" and instead offers "Ghats" -- great).

Swype came with my Galaxy Tab 7.1 so I'm hoping it is pre-loaded on the Nexus, but as long as it can be installed I won't worry. Unless "Ghats" is in the dictionary... ;-)

LOL F those Ghats bastages!

If it continues with the Nexus I think I'm going to return it in favor of a white Droid Razr HD...that should do the trick ;)

Pretty sure I read over on xda swype is not working yet. They were suggesting replacement apps that do the similar thing like swiftkey. I'm just gonna wait till its updated

No it does not work. When I tried to use it, it gave me a message saying it wasnt compatible with the screen size. I hope they get it working soon.

Swype has only been preloaded on some devices, it was never a stock android keyboard unfortunately.

I just downloaded the official beta from swype and can confirm it does not work, I get the following error

"ERROR: This screen size is not supported. Check beta.swype.com/android/faq for a list of supported sizes"

So looks like no swype until someone gets it working. Sorry folks.

I"m sure it won't be long until someone gets it up and running. What are some of the other keyboards that work similar to it?

SlideIT is a popular keyboard that is like swype, also I hear Ultra Keyboard is also like swype.

Also I found this about swype on their message boards, might be awhile until official support for people wanting this keyboard. Hopefully some devs can fix the issue for everyone in the mean time.

Ice Cream Sandwich and/or 720p ETA?

No swype, reportedly too low volume thru external speaker, iffy camera reviews.... I think I'll let this baby simmer on the stove for awhile, let someone else guinea pig it...I'm just now starting to have fun with my rooted x2....lol

Swiftkey is 10 cents in the market right now. Might be a viable alternative until Swype gets updated to support 720p displays.

swype already does 720p according to the beta website, the nexus isn't quite 720p in typing mode, i assume is the issue.

according to the forum, swype say their business is really about preloading, so the focus is not really on getting a nexus one out anytime soon, they estimate early next year.

i've tried 2 alts including slideit and i miss all the little features swype has slowly been adding.
