this might sound stupid, but i just don't get it!!!
why 'HTC Desire Z' with the following network specs is compatible with 3G+ on all Canadian providers (e.g. Rogers) but 'HTC Desire HD' with the EXACT SAME network specs is NOT?!!!

I have an HTC Desire that I bought in August 2010 (I don't know if it's an HD or not) from Orange in France. I can confirm that in the US, this phone only does data at Edge speeds. I had to manually add the APN with the help of some kind person at an AT&T phone store in NYC.

if you're going to buy it in HK , cross the "border" and go to Shenzhen , futian district , donmeng lu (street) , any cab driver will take you just say electric city , you will save another 200$ (can$) , i had my wife do some price checking down there , hey a plane ticket to HK + the cost of the phone is still cheaper then if i buy it here unlocked ........ i guess they fly them in in first class..... champagne M. HTC desire hd ? , or are they(canadian telco's) really devious in politely asking me to bend over ?

That's right. And looks like Canadians are getting their version of Desire HD as well, which will work on AT&T unlike the European version.

Have a look at the site http://phonecompatibility.net again. There is a reason why there's two version of Desire Z - one says "European version" and the other says "for Telus". If you live in US (and with AT&T), you will want the Telus version.

hey , got my hands on it for 2700 CNY in shenzhen luohu district (409 $CAN) , and it rocks ..... i just cant wait for HTC to do a 8 to 10 inches tablet

if the phone is unlock, it will work on any carrier.

i understand that, but i have unlocked a telus phone before and when i use it on the rogers network i could only get 2g not 3g. would i have the same problem with the desire?

You'd need to update your APN settings, maybe that's why it didn't work before?

dont think so. when i followed the unlock video online they mentioned that you could only use 2g. and i got the correct APN from rogers.
