Will the Optimus Ever Receive the 2.3 Update?

No idea. The 2.2.2 update has been out for a while now, and barely anyone has switched because of not being able to root, or so they can keep the custom ROM they're using. And if 2.3 came out, the update would have been for preventing root :/

I dont think so, Metro's major phones such as the indulge still hasn't received the 2.3 update so I doubt the optimus will.

I'm afraid the optimus will soon be forgotten by metro. Sadly. Twas my first venture into the Android world.

It's already been forgotten imo, they been discontinued at Best Buy. Only small metro pcs stores have them, no major chains.

Hi guys,

Don't worry and please don't come into conclusion that LG Optimus M is not in the list of upgrading Android OS Ginger 2.3 because I just read one of LG public notice: (see below)

"LG will upgrade all Optimus One smartphones currently using the Froyo OS to the next version of the Android OS, Gingerbread. Details of the upgrade schedule will be announced locally in due course. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and misunderstanding that was caused regarding this issue."

This notice was release on Dec.9, 2010 and it is already part of LG's next step of enhancing Optimus one OS 2011 upgrade.

I wish everyone would just quit with this esteem shit.

Not everyone lives in 4g zones. Why would I want a 1x Esteem? If I bought a new phone it would be from a real carrier. I can't see paying Metro even MORE money for 1x data.

It's cool that the Esteem might work for some people, but you guys who upgraded are acting like we all should and thats just ignorant. I don't have anything with an HDMI port, and I don't live or travel in a working 4g or 3g zone. So for me the Esteem would be a 250 dollar 200mhz cpu overclock.

And besides that it's a crappy single core 1ghz phone, while all the real carriers are launching dual core 1.2ghz phones or better. This phone is 2 year old technology at best.

no but thanks for getting this thread started, so i can ask this, somebody, anybody, team viewer with me, pleez, i'm running windows 7 and i really want cm7 on my phone, when i run lgnpst it says failed to load the skin.dll or skin file or something, it wont work and i really want a rooted phone, pleez, if you team viewer my computer, i'll thank your post multiple times, pleez

You don't need lgnpst to root your phone. Look in the Optimus M all things root sub forum, click on the very first thread. That should help you with everything you're trying to do.

Im with you dood! I live in the detroit suburbs and get this, 4G only goes up to 8 miles north of detroit, I live 11 miles north where there is a very big shopping district and residential communities! So no Esteem for me neither!

I will go with another carrier and just use my Optimus as a WiFi home phone!

^^Agreeing^^;) --(note: I still love my Optimus M)
LG optimus is the good enough. No need for a better phone plus I'm a 14 year old boy so I don't get money. But if you want a better phone just overclock and install roms and stuff to make it better. This phone a perfect little phone (LG esteem still cool doe)

Sooo... by the time Ice Cream comes out we'll probably have Gingerbread? :p My roomie with a Droid X just got an update for 2.3.3... I dunno what I'm missing but I feel out of the loop being in 2.2.1 and all these others phones are getting updated. I'd root if I could but I don't want to mess up my phone if in the future a possible upgrade or switch is available for me...

How can you CHECK for such updates? Will the phone just tell you or do you have to go to the market or something? inb4noob

I am not sure how long you've operated electronics, but most updates are a pain in the ass with any device -- in my opinion. You have to look around to get your updates. You look at a few things. First, your phone is an LG phone -- so check out LG's website and keep your eyes peeled for LG related stuff. Second, your carrier is Metro PCS -- so apply the actions from the first point. Third, your operating system is Android -- you get the idea. I would add things as you see fit. That is how you keep updated. Why is this necessary?

I have several devices that have "update software" and all it does is tell me everything is up to date. Then, I go to the device manufacturer's website and find downloads not detected by the software. What is the point of the software?

Then, I go to the developer of the component, driver, etc. and find other downloads the company that makes the device did not mention on their site. So, I have more work to do.

Most of the stuff we buy is beta test crap. They sell it to us so that we can test it. They use our complaints, praise, and affirmations to develop that product and sell us the next test product. Note that we never get the real product that offers the solutions. We always feel that we almost have it, but we need one more update or one more whatever. To stay ahead of the curve you must know the game, know the players, and network with others.

If all else fails, maintain an active membership here; you will hear of most important updates -- I presume. =)

@reilus:Well I've been using computers for about 17 years but being jobless sets you back a few years in the tech world ao I'm just now getting into smartphones.

I ask if there's a way to know since the market tells me when there are updates for my apps. When my roomie got his update he asked what happened to his phone because it told him there was an update & I looked and noticed the gingerbread icons, and knew that's what happened since I've seen the icons on people's screenshots. Well thanks for the input. Just curious and all I can do is ask.
