well, the voucher is from htc and not tom tom.

i did a trial purchase of navigation to test it and downloaded india map.

but i dont like the navigation maps of htc in the locations, its not as good as google maps.

any idea how i can use google maps for navigation even if its paid?

hey you men u got a voucher in the box of DHD when u bought it from india ?

I also bought it from india but I dont see any voucher in my box ... where in box u found the voucher?
 
i have a desire z purchased from india and i got no voucher but the maps came pre installed on my device and navigation is also working, how do i check if navigation is trial or not.
P.S. Google also has navigation but its in beta

OK.some questions if u dont mind..after downloading india maps, did u get your location??
Did the navigation app show u the route from point A to point B in your city??

Google navigation at this point of time in India is not completely in form.
Indian maps from google are also not complete ie they have lesser detail / accuracy.
But that doesnt stop u from using it.
"Map my India" maps are widely used in India.
However u can download google maps 5 from android market.
requires data connection to navigate..it works..if u have a 3g connection maps load faster and your location will be determined by the AGPS (cell tower assisted GPS)...
 
i think google maps 5 is automatically installed on my phone or it may also have been automatically updated cos i just checked my maps version is 5.1

actually google maps also works fine on gprs, i hv used it many times. it dosent gives you voice navigation, so its a bit difficult and risky to use when alone, but if u hv a friend on side seat, just hand over ur phone to him.
mobile maps india is a good app, but its ui is quite confusing. it have a good database of poi, but still nothing in competetion with google maps.
 
Anyone facing MMS sending/receiving problems using Vodafone (in Mumbai)? I've tried several APN settings and even visited the Voda store guy, who was also unsuccessful in setting up MMS on my DHD. Anyone facing similar issues or any recommendations? Thx

i do not think mms works in india (atleast not in kolkata on airtel) i have tried with motorola sony nokia and htc. it dosen't even work airtel to airtel.

i suggest you try sending an mms to yourself or any other vodafone customer and see if it works

APN settings for AIRTEL as i know... please follow these settings... for others (vodafone, idea, docomo, blah blah... put in ur specific settings... ask ur provider)

Follow these settings in order... dont alter order or it wont work. also dont include (*) after every value. i have included it, just so that all other provider settings in these will differ for others. Ask ur providers(except airtel...) and fill the values.

1. Delete all APN (menu>settings>wireless...>mobile internet>APN)

2. Create New APN with followint Settings

Name: Internet
APN: airtelgprs.com*
Proxy:
Port:
Username:
Password
Server: *
MMSC: http://100.1.201.171:10021/mmsc*
MMS Proxy: 100.001.201.172*
MMS Port: 8799*
MCC: 404*
MNC: 45*
APN Type: default
CLICK MENU and SAVE

3. Save and then create one more APN with following Settings:
Name: mms
APN: airtelmms.com*
Proxy: 100.001.201.172*
Port:8799*
Username:
Password
Server: *
MMSC: http://100.1.201.171:10021/mmsc*
MMS Proxy: 100.001.201.172*
MMS Port: 8799*
MCC: 404*
MNC: 45*
APN Type: mms*
CLICK MENU and SAVE


Re-start your phone


click on messages
add a photo(use messages... not astro or any other)
send to urself 1st

If this doesn't work, call ur provider and ask to activate MMS and GPRS/3G


if nothing else works, leave a message here and let me see wat i can do.

the settings here are only for airtel

ALSO NOTE: in network type chose DUAL MODE (GSM/WCDMA)

if you are willing , i can make a complete guide (only for DHDs) for u guys and post it here :)

also, my DHD runs not at 0.8Ghz as defaults do, but overclocked at 1.22Ghz :D

loads of stuff and my battery is awesome, increase in speaker volume, better battery life, better screen touch, smoother movements, and loads of other goodies.

all you need is a good 2 hrs (max to complete the job)

In fact... not more than 15 mins if u have all the files

i dunno wat u people are cribbing about...but, on locations and google maps, i have GPS enabled turn-by-turn navigation. i mean street view (3D)... not just the vertival view...

@anqua99: A good guide is really nice. I do know there are couple of them out there. But I would appreciate if you gave a step by step procedure of how you go about with the appropriate file links.

Abinav, i am from Bangalore too.. I want the official ROM on ur HD.. So can u back it up and forward it to me??? It wud really helpful. U need to do a rom backup of ur official ROM before ROOTING UR DEVICE
