Will the wireless charging work with an Otterbox Defender case on??

Hello, I was just wondering about this. I am interested in how it works and would like to know if it will work with the case on. Thanks!!

Probably not. The case will block the conduction.


Also, keep in mind that the wireless back is thicker, so many cases will no longer fit. .
 
Wireless charging is nice but has some con's. It is neat and cool to have but in the long run I see it as a total waste of money. The stock S4 is a 2 amp charger and usually charges the battery in about 2 1/2 hours and the wireless charger charges aroumd 600 mA or .6 amps with means longer charging times.
 
I never minded longer charging times. Most of the time I charge my phone overnight anyway. And, when I was in a rush, I just used the charger that came with the phone.

The bigger issue to me was the inductive back making the phone really thick, and precluding the use of most of the available cases.

To me, the convenience of not having to plug the phone in at night was not worth having a bulkier device that did not fit any existing cases.
 
the wireless charging doesn't add any bulk on the s4 that I can tell. But I don't see it being able to charge through the otter box. I would love to see a test with the charging kit and difference cases to see if it can through any of the cases.

The wireless back does make the phone a bit bigger at the top.

Have you held one in your hand? I have. its subjective. I find it to be trivial, barely add any weight, and didn't change the way I held my phone with it on.

I bought the wireless back for my last phone. It did add width and even Samsung on their website highlights a similar issue.

That said, it is subjective no doubt.
 
The biggest issue with wireless charging for the S4 is:

It charges up to 95%-100% then stops charging and once the battery drops just even 0.01%, the charging starts again.

This results in the phone making noises every time charging starts and stops.
This results in the screen turning on and off every time charging starts and stops.
This results in the pop up notification message every time charging starts and stops.

Truly annoying.

Screen randomly turning on drove me mad. Had to move the Qi pad to another room.
 
The charging works fine through the Otterbox Case but the case doesn't fit the phone well once you add the new back plate.

I have a new Galaxy S4 with Samsung wireless charging cover. Also the Nokia wireless charger. I thought the convienience would be great. The guy at Verizon said it would work.

But it was all I could do to get the Otterbox to snap around the new back cover. Then it just wouldn't snap well into the belt loop carrying holder. You could get it to work but often it would pop out. Don't want that happening when you don't notice it.

In the end I'm returning the charger. Just can't get it to work well with the Otterbox Defender.
 
I have the Samsung charging back plate and the otterbox defender case. The back plate does make the phone a little thicker. When I first tried to fit the case around it, it was a little difficult to get the case to snap in all locations. I had to actually lay it face down on the table and lean my weight onto it so it would snap in place. I've removed it several times since then and it's easier to put on now. Can snap it with hand strength now. It fits nicely in the holster too.doesn't come out until I want it to. It charges just fine on the nokia pad.
 
I am really impressed that it charges through the otterbox case. I would most definitely bony have expected it to work through a thickish case of that nature.

The wirless charger dupes work through the otterbox and it can partially for in the case. It does not close properly but you could make it work. I have had the same problem
 
If your phone works with WiFi through the Otterbox - why wouldn't it charge using the same medium? I use a Qi charger I purchased through Ebay and the unit was from China. The most noticeable thing during charging is the heat developed which dissipates very quickly when the phone is taken off the charger. The system warning indicates that the phone is nearly fully charged and may be removed for use - generally at 98% charge. I've been using this unit for 4 months and am so satisfied that I purchased a second unit from China. With the 2 amp Samsung wall charger as the power source, the output specs of the wireless charger is 5v - 1amp. Charging times I have found are the same for direct cable as for wireless, but not having to plug in the cable to the phone is a plus. There is also the gain that there is less likelihood of damage to the USB charging point on the phone.
 
I have a thin metal plate between the back of my phone and my case so it can attach it to a magnetic mount in my cd player slot. Will this plate interfere with wireless charging?
 
I can only suggest you try it. My laptop connects to WiFi which is a Wireless connection and through walls and ceilings in the house. I'm no expert on the way the signals are affected, but the EMF/RF, if it is sufficient in size can be quite powerful and penetrative. I would suggest from my own experience that you make sure you have the genuine Samsung 2amp wall plug as the lower rate .5/.7 amp adapters will take longer to charge the phone battery.
