Help Will this phone be another Captivate?

I dont think he is off base. I am on my 2nd Captivate. I would call this a seriously fail phone. The first one would randomly shut down. Not very good for setting an alarm or having it power down in the middle of a conversation.

My current one is horrible also. I routinely have to recycle power to get the thing to charge. I will get a call, and will be unable to answer because the UI appears to be locked up. At other times it will be sluggish to the point that I have to wait 5-10 secs to get the UI to respond.

I don't use the this as a game machine. It's my PHONE. I may only have 5 apps downloaded.

In talking with the AT&T reps, the admitted it has been a pretty bad phone in terms of the number returned for replacement.

And then to add insult to injury, I think Samsung must have only had 1/2 FTE working on the 2.2 upgrade. No wonder it took 9 months to come out. And of course, 2.3 is officially no where to be seen.

I just don't know who to point the finger at. Samsung (would be my bet), Android or AT&T?

This almost exactly describes my experiences with the Captivate. Right down to the brand new warranty replacement phone that isnt much better than the original. My phone at times is so bad that doing simple things like turning the WiFi on or off will lock up the phone and demand a battery pull. Every once in a while the phone will lock up just becuse the phone rings! I have missed many calls because all I can do is sit and watch the phone ring and I can't answer it.

I understand that some people got their phones to work by loading custom ROM's and unauthorized fixes that they found on XDA or elsewhere... but I paid for a device that WORKS when I push the button. And the Cappy doesn't. Sorry if it pisses some of you off, but it often simply doesn't work correctly. That's why I asked my question: Will the Attain be a better phone than the Captivate?

And I don't need to see your speed charts on your new GS2. Speed alone doesn't impress me... speed coupled with stability impresses me. I don't care if your phone is the fastest on the planet if it only works half of the time. That's like bragging about your new Maserati but not being able to drive it because it's in the shop for repairs.

As for all of those glowing reviews from Europe that people are gushing about: Read them closely and with a critical eye. If you do, you'll notice a trend. People are blown away with how fast this new phone is at first... hence all of the "I love this blazing fast phone!" reviews. But read on and you start to see cracks in the Samsung veneer. I have gone to many of the European carrier forums (especially British because they're all in English) to read about this phone, and I have read literally hundreds of posts complaining about WiFi reception and dropout problems with the GS2 phones. And poor call quality.

And guess what? That same WiFi gripe has already surfaced in another thread in this very subforum.

I'm afraid that as long as people buy buggy devices from Samsung, that company will have no reason to improve the quality of their products.

Mine is not so bad I have to do battery pulls. Ech!

I accept that people can't get it 100%. What is not acceptable to me is the lack of real response by Samsung (or AT&T) to the issues. All you seem to get is scripted answers from some $1.65/hr call center employee.

They sold millions of these phones. They are one of the most successful electronic manufacturers on the planet. Come on, throw some resources at it and make your customers happy.

PS - Forgot another symptom of my Captivate. Start texting. No characters appear. Wait 5-10 secs and WHAM! 18 characters appear at once. So, obviously the keyboard task/thread is capturing, but the display thread is bonked.

I still use my captivate when i go to the gym but that phone was probably the worse i ever owned. I would literally lose gps signal in downtown San Francisco, San Diego and Las Vegas. Sometimes i felt like throwing it out the window.
