Root Will this work?

I'm S-On and want to use TWRP 2.0 instead of 4-EXT because 4-ext has caused me problems in the past and I'd like a more stable alternative. If I make a backup of my current rom with TWRP 2 would everything work when I restore the backup? (Including the kernel)?

Note: I already know how to flash kernels with adb and don't want to do S-Off. So please lets be on topic :)

If you use TWRP to back up and use your TWRP back up, but you will not be able to access any nandroid back ups you made with 4EXT.

let's say I flashed a rom with a different kernel using 4ext. Then I backed up the rom with twrp, can i restore the backup with no problems?

I think it would work. An option would be to just flash that kernel in TWRP after you have flashed the rom. That way you don't have to do the ADB. There are 3 or four kernels that work fine on this phone. I have changed only the kernel a few times. No need to flash a rom, if all you want to change is the kernel.

So, what ever you back up with TWRP will restore with TWRP.

It doesn't matter if you flashed a rom or kernel with one custom recovery and then flash another recovery. The new recovery can backup and restore the phone just fine. Just remember, as stated already, that a custom recovery can only restore backups that it made and not ones from another recovery.

That's not what I mean't... What I'm trying to ask is if even though I have S-On and flash kernels via adb, am I able to backup or restore my rom using TWRP 2 without reflashing the kernel through adb or 4-ext.

Yes, you are able to able to backup or restore your ROM using TWRP 2. TWRP does allow you to flash a Rom with the kernel, so you don't need to pull the kernel out and flash it after the ROM.

What issues have you experienced using 4EXT? The only problem I have ever seen is because of the kludge workaround using smart flash for kernels instead of being s-offed or using fastboot.

Well sometimes It wont flash a kernel right, once that happens there's no other option but to do it through adb because if you try to reflash a kernel through 4-ext after the first error, it'll give you a bootloop.
