Help Will unlock code void warranty?

I tried to find this information anywhere, but could not find an answer.
I'm thinking to get a phone that's locked to Bell, unlock it with unlock code, and using it with Fido. Will using this unlock code void my warranty?
Also, do you get both carrier warranty and manufacturer warranty when you buy a phone from local carrier? If so, which one of these warranty will/won't be void after unlocking the phone?

Thanks in advance :)

No it won't void your warranty, although if you ask the carrier they will usually say it does. Just go ahead and unlock it. Note that Bell doesn't sell the Desire, only Telus does. And also note that both Bell and Telus block 2G/EDGE data in their firmwares because they don't have a 2G network. So don't be surprised if you're out of the city and your data connection dies once you lose 3G signal. There is a fix for that, but you need to flash generic HTC firmware or rooted firmware on your phone to open up EDGE again. And that voids your warranty with the carrier, although you might be able to flash the carrier firmware back on the phone for warranty service.

This is a grey area - if you don't have a plan with Bell, they may not honour the warranty or it might be a fight to get them to honour it since you bought the phone there. HTC asks you to deal with the carriers when you buy phones from carriers since carriers have their own firmwares put on the phones, but they should honour the warranty if you take the phone directly to them.

Thank you :) I confirmed with HTC too and they said unlocking with code won't void the warranty.

"You can unlock your device without voiding the warranty. ... it is the action of unlocking the ROM and rooting the device that voids the warranty of the HTC device."

Yes, according to HTC, unlocking your phone does not void the warranty.

Here's the problem though: for the Desire Z, HTC has no RMA process. Instead, they claim, "it is the responsibility of the carrier". Which is Bell. But Bell will claim, come hell or high water, that unlocking the phone voids your warranty. I pointed out, to three different Bell sales people, that no where in the HTC warranty booklet does it state that. I even called HTC directly, got one of their support guys on the line and handed the phone over to the Bell employee. The Bell guy listened to their explanation, told them they didn't know what the hell they were talking about and hung up on them.

So... errr.. it's not as clear cut as you would like to think.

Surely its illegal to refuse warranty when it is legitimate?

Even worse if it was due to stupidity
