Help WiMax files on my phone!!!!

Ok so Im still a bit new but I have TU on boost, rooted but stock rom with 2.3.4. Anyways I was board today and started browsing through stuff with Root Explorer and came across these files!!!!! Can we get WiMax 4g with this phone???? Mabye edit some things with SQ Editor to open them up??? Heres what I found;

With Root Explorer go to- /system/ect then scroll to the bottom and I have:

wimax_boot.bin, wimaxfw.bin and wimaxloader.bin

What are these for??? I dont remember seeing them so its new to me and sorry if this has already been brought up!!!

Also why do I have both sprint and boost privacy files on my phone??? I know sprint owns boost but they are diffrent phones right???

One last thing, I cannot get wireless tether or foxfi to work AT ALL!!!!!! I really need help with that please!!!! Do I have to edit permissions or something???? Would it be possible to say mabye install the sprint hotspot.apk and make it work on this phone??? or is something like that even possible??? Mabye edit the values in something to make it accessable???

Thank-you for all your help and espically to the devs!!!!

Wow! Lots of questions. Bear with me as I hack-n-slash your post to help you get up to speed.

No. While the files necessary to get wimax to work have been loaded, the hardware doesn't exist on the phone. A good analogy would be like having your favorite movie on Blu-ray, but not having anything to play them.

...What are these for???...Also why do I have both sprint and boost privacy files on my phone??? I know sprint owns boost but they are diffrent phones right???

Actually, they're exactly the same phone other than a handful of key files which tell the phone which towers it's running on. It's for this reason that I think what Boost/Sprint did was they created an all-in-one stock rom or install pack, and then just deleted or omitted one set of files or another to tell the phone which network it belonged to. If that's the case, it might also explain the wimax files.

One last thing, I cannot get wireless tether or foxfi to work AT ALL!!!!!! ...

Sorry, can't help you there as I don't use foxfi, myself. Sprint nerfing the tether so you have to be really sneaky or pay for hotspot access is one of the reasons I almost (and probably still will) dropped the Ultra altogether. At the time I switched to Sprint, I had no internet, and not enough cashflow to get it. Since the TU is my first experience with Sprint, it may be that all their phones are that way. But back to your questions, if you do a forum search for foxfi in the "All Things Root" sub-forum, you should be able to find the answers you're looking for. :)

Hope this helps. Good luck, and may you have an Ultra day! ;) :p

Thanx for the help bro!!!!! I'm glad to see someone responded!! Lol  So I've been doing some reading up and in some other threads it said that the the TU was very capable of getting 4g but boost had to enable it!!! I wonder if their is a way to do it ourselves?? What exactly do these files do???? Does boost only have wimax or does it have lte like sprint too?? Id love to have better speed on this phone!!!!!

Second I know this is the same exact phone for boost and sprint and the files make sense I guess. Does the sprint version of this phone have a native hotspot app??? And if boost has a hotspot plan how would it work for non rooted phones with no native app?? Would they expect you to download a app from the market??? Id like to find a way to put a hotspot app to this phone that would automatically broadcast in infastructure mode!!! Ad-hoc mode is too limiting!!!!! Lol

And last I've read that for somereason foxfi and wireless tether have both stopped working for somereason on boost/sprint!!! That sux!!! I believe they are trying a worrk around but I was reading somewhere that it was possible to just modify something and open up the phone to broadcast in infastructure mode all the time!!!! It would even be nice to have a native usb tether!!

If any of this is a possibility please someone let me know!!! Ill take the risk to learn!!!

A big thanx to all the Devvs and TU users!!

I use Foxfi every day and never have any problems. It appears some people are having problems with Foxfi and it seems to depend on location. There is a thread around here somewhere about it. I'm located just outside Chicago and for now it seems to be working here.

Only some Boost phones support the hot spot for an additonal $10 a month. The Samsung Transform Ultra is not one of them.

Hmm...... I live in ohio and it isn't working for me at all!!! It keeps saying their is a DNS error!!! What does that mean?? Is their something I can change to mabye get it working again??? And why.when I try to touch the option to configure my hotspot it doesn't work??? Why would it display that option if wit really isn't possible??? Is their a way to configure the hotspot or get to a menu to do it???

I'm having some issues with foxfi myself but got interrupted when i was messing with it since i was testing it with my wife's laptop. i do know that PDAnet works for me when im on my windows 7 machine. when i get a chance ill mess with foxfi some more and if i come up with anything ill let ya know. i will say this tho, try setting it to wpa and no encryption like mentioned above but remember to set the same for your computing device you are trying to use it for. aka wpa connection for a device that is encrypted with wpa2 wont work. also is it saying you have internet access but then you go to use a browser and it won't work or is it saying local network only?
