Windows 7 & HTC Sync ?

Ok,my sprint hero will not sync with htc sync. Not even with that new version 2.0.18 that came out. I did the device manager updating adb drivers but that doesn't work. Will copying the vista drivers work? Remember, this is for Windows 7.
 
What exactly does HTC Sync sync? With all this trying to get it to work you could have just dragged and dropped and been done.
 
looking at my drivers and the ADB Interface says its a HTC dream Composite ??? i read somewere this is wrong but now i cant seem to find were i read it ..DAMN
 
okay this is how i fixed it

go here and download the drivers
HTC Hero Drivers download for Android - Softpedia

then copy them to programfiles\htc\htc drivers\win7 drivers ( i just over rode the ones that were there ..

then go to device manager and at the top there is a ADB interface ...expand it ..then right click on the device there ( in my case it was the HTC dream ) ...do update driver ..Choose manual , then choose i have a disk , got to the locaiton of the drivers programfiles\htc\htc drivers\win7 drivers there should be 2 files to choose from , CHOSE the MY HTC ...once done your HTC sync will work ...mine is working now
 
I am seeing numerous posts saying even after getting a workaround to function HTC Sync still won't transfer contacts from Outlook properly and that is the whole reason for it.

HTC tech support tells me there is no support for Windows 7 or Vista 64 and won't say if they are working on it. I think this is because it is a new world for them, the sync for WinMo phones was handle by Microsoft. HTC is now scrambling to keep sync functionality with Outlook, which is an important feature to most WinMo users that are switching to Android (like me) and they aren't doing a very good job of it. How could they not have drivers ready for the latest release of Windows which actually debuted at almost the same time as the phone? They are really behind on this one.

As far as 2.0.18 goes, that was written for the European market Hero, the Sprint Hero is CDMA which supposedly required a major workaround to get it to work with Android 1.5, I will wait for a version that is written for our device.
 
just so we are clear , i didnt test the outlook sync ..the truth is i dont use that at all ..i transfered all my contacts to gmail and the phone did its magic after that ..goig foward i will always use gmail for my contacts ..i use google voice as well so my contacts there are updated via gmail as well ..all sync to one location ..life is good !
 
I use Outlook for business e-mail and need my contacts synced with the phone, never a problem with WinMo, but it seems the only Android phone marketed as capable of doing so is not. I really like Android in most other respects, and will wait till WinMo 7 comes out, if it is a winner I will probably switch back unless somebody comes up with a good workable solution to the sync issue.

I had a blackberry before this and my contacts were pushed to the enterprise server. When I got my Hero and setup exchange, it downloaded all of my contact info. Does Exchange not enable a 2 way push with other mobile OS's?
 
Fix for Windows 7 (I am running 64 bit Edition Please Pick the correct driver download below and extract to a folder on desktop).

Also I am Running HTC Sync version 2.0.4 which I googled and downloaded.

Please go to this site and towards the bottom there are links for both 64bit and 32bit versions of windows 7

Workaround for HTC Hero Sync Problem in Windows 7 My Digital Life

1st: make sure that your have Debugging mode enabled on phone menu/settings/applications/development and check USB Debugging box.

2nd: while phone is plugged into computer (Do not mount SD card or use HTC Sync) go to the computers device manager and at the top you should see Android USB Devices click the arrow (or double click "Android USB Devices") to open the tree and you should see Dream Composite or HTC Dream under that

3rd: Right click on "Dream or HTC Dream" can

I'm not sure about Exchange, never used it. I had my e-mail accounts configured on the phone and synced my contacts and calendar with Outlook.
 
I found all the workaround stuff and couldn't see the "My HTC" driver when browsing my computer. What I had to do was right-click the ADB driver and uninstall it completely. Then I had to disconnect my pc from the internet, then plug the phone in again. This stopped windows from automatically looking up the device. I then in the new hardware dialog, browsed to the driver directory and saw the "My HTC" driver in there.
 
I just got it to work. I am running W7 Ultimate 64 bit on the PC w/ MS Outlook 2007 and using Sprint HTC Hero. I was having no luck following instructions from rgildoss but once I figured it out, the instructions worked.

0. Disconnect phone from USB cable attached to PC
1. Do a clean uninstall of previous versions of Sync and the drivers
2. Go to HTC site and download Sync 2.0.18 version for w7 support
3. Disable your antivirus package
4. Run the install program
5. Start the sync program on the PC
6. Connect phone to USB cable and from the phone hit the sync option - this will cause the phone to see if sync is running on the PC or not, it will also complete the installation of the drivers on the phone - for some reason this was my problem, the ADB driver wouldn't install and I was stuck
7. Go to device mgr step. For W7 64bit, it was not necessary for me to reinstall drivers from another location like the workarounds described
8. Expand the ADB interface and select HTC dream; update driver, choose manual and 'have disk' pointing to the programfile(x64)\htc\htc drivers\win7
9. Choose My HTC file and install.

Now I'm back in business.
