Root Windows 7 will not recognize EVO 4g as a disk drive

Hey guys,

I would not be posting in a thread if I wasn't completely stuck on how to deal with this problem. *note* I am in no way tech savvy but I would like to try and fix this problem before sending my android back to best buy.
This is a replacement phone which has never connected to my computer via USB since I've gotten it.

I am trying to root my phone, but it will not show up as a driver on my laptop. It will not ask me about the USB connection type nor connect to my Windows 7 operating system. I tried manually connecting the disk drive, plugging in to different USB ports, and installing the google USB driver package through android SDK manager but nothing happens. The same thing occurs on my sister's laptop and when I tried tethering.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you saying that after connecting your Evo to your laptop, when you pull down the status bar on the Evo's screen, there isn't an option to change the connection type (e.g., from "charge only" to "disk drive")?

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!
i moved you to the rooting section.

have you tried a different cable?

also maybe a factory reset might help. it is recommended that you do one anyways.

have you installed the drivers?

also make sure that your antivirus is turned off and that no other programs that can sync with your phone is running.

and finally, please read this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

The same thing use to happen to me. Im not sure if theres a known cause or a fix but i just used a diffetent usb cord to connect my phone to the pc and it worked. I have to do that everytime because my original cord plugged in for some reason wont be read by my pc or my ps3. Nothing shows
