What value should this be set at foe our phones default is 55 I believe, a search is all over the place on what value to use 60, 120, 132, 168 are numbers I've seen others use.

The first thing you should do is make a copy of the original file.....Then change the number and save.....Try a few different of those number as not all hardware is the same. I ran mine at 150 and it ran pretty smooth, yours may not.

The Rom you're running makes a difference too. One of the first ICS Roms I ran I put it at 185 and it ran nice.
