Root wiping data & dalvik

Yes, I have searched; but I'm still not clear on what the best practice is.

So, between ROMS, who wipes their data and clears the dalvik cache? Do you do it prior to flashing the new ROM or after? Is it recommended if you are just updating a ROM from say 2 to 2.1? Thanks - m

I have been following the instructions EDT always includes in their roms. 1 Wipe data/factory reset 2 flash rom 3 wipe cache and dalvik and fix permissions. Then reboot. In that order. Has not caused me any problems. Don't know about the updates.. I haven't tried any like that. I am usually 2 or 3 updates old by the time I flash a new rom.

I have only flashed back to stock 1x. However, I've recently been experiencing some bugs that are probably not completely ROM related. Ended up having to remove FROST after a crazy spontaneous reset and then some other strange things; like my app drawer suddenly reverting back to stock and no 3D scrolling. On the latest Bionix now and all of my widgets have stopped running several times now.

Just wanted to make sure I was doing everything right. Looks like I need a refresher course in ODIN.

Thanks - m

Wait a minute... Are you talking the wipe data/factory reset option in Clockwork Recovery? I think that's it. I'm actually reconditioning my battery and don't want to turn on the phone to check. I've never used that option.

So charge to 100% - Reboot in Recovery - Wipe/Reset (from Recovery) - Flash - Then wipe dalvik?

I wipe Cache, Dalvik and Battery stats in CWR and then flash the new ROM. I have only been flashing Team Whiskey ROMS so I have not been using ODIN (though I did ODIN back to stock when I first flashed a ROM)

Yes. The one in cemetery.. I don't think you should do it unless you are planning to flash a new rom though ..I did it once for a reason I can't remember and I got stuck in boot loop.

I have had similar issues with widgets and what-nots after using a rom for several weeks.. also general performance issues.. I started doing the EDT steps after a fresh odin back to stock to get rid of any noob mistakes I most likely made in my first several flashes and haven't had any trouble since.. (fingers crossed)

But you've probably figured all of this out by now.. :o
