Help wired headset mic not working

I am trying to you my Sony ear buds with mic. The phone sees that its a head set but the Mic is not working. Tryed it on my droid and my wifes inc and it worked fine. Any ideas.

Mine works fine. Also a Sony. Not trying to be rude, but I'm an av director at church, and have seen situations where the tech did not have it plugged in all the way. Are you using a case?

Using a set of JBuds J4M headphones with mic and no problems.

So after a trip to bestbuy and Verizon it seems like any wired sets that had volume rockers did not work. Seems the phone does not like ipod controls on the head set.

Noooo! I don't think I own a pair that doesn't have in line sound control FML

I read somewhere (I forget now), that if you hold in the centre button when plugging in the headphones the mic works.

I have a set of Phillips ones that works this way. the good news is that it is a software problem so we may get a solution in the future.

Mine has the same problem. The same headset works perfectly with my Droid Incredible, but in my Thunderbolt the mic doesn't work. Haven't tried holding down the middle button and plugging it in though.

Hold down what button? My headphones don't have a button or volume control but the mic on the phone still gets disabled when they are plugged in.

Does your plug that you insert into the Tbolt have 2 stripes on it? I'm guessing it does. You'll need one with 3 stripes and even then you might have problems with certain brands.

I just got a refurb Thunderbolt and when I plug in the headset it only shows headphones, no microphone coming out of the headset as it does on my Incredible. NEITHER my Tbolt OR the REFURB works with THREE different HIGH-END headsets!

This SUX!!!!!
