Root Wired Tether on rooted 2.3.3

I've used Wired Tether (code(dot)google(dot)com/p/android-wired-tether/) for my Droid Eris and works great. I just got the Commando for my dad and want to set up the Wired Tethering for him as well since he is still on dial up! My question is if anyone has gotten it to work properly for them on windows XP with their Commando? He doesn't have wireless or more than one PC so wired tether is preferred.

The Commando is running 2.3.3 and is now rooted with the Wired Tether app installed. I have tried various USB connection options and with and without USB debugging enabled and I can't seem to get it to work. It works with my Eris.

Any assistance/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I did install the drivers in the link you posted. I can view the SD card in mass storage mode, sync with media sync, and charge....all load fine including the ADB drivers. However, I never get the internet connection creation that I get when I connect my Eris. USB debugging is enabled as in the Eris, but maybe there is another HTC sync component I need to install on the Commando?

I do realize Verizon is not keen on tethering, but this is a trial at the moment as I'm not sure he'll even get service where his computer is at....because I don't with my phone in his house. I have the data monitor on his home page and considering he doesn't use more than 100 MB a month right now due to the slow speeds I'm really worried about him getting flagged. If he does, my dad knows what it costs to add the tethering plan to his line and he can decide if it is worth it or not for him...if it works at all.

I used pdanet for a while and did not have any issue. Seems like there was an apk for the phone and one for the computer. With the program you are using I think you have to create a DUN profile for a USB modem in the internet setting. I am sorry, but I don't really know much more than that.

I did go over to the site you posted & looked at the FAQ for the application. There are many possible causes of the problem you are having. There may be a kernel issue that you will not be able to resolve. since this is an experiment, give pdanet a try. It offers a free trial that would be a good test.

good catch....I didn't pick up on the kernel bits in the FAQ so yeah, without compiling my own kernel with the required information it isn't going to work. My Eris is running a custom ROM that already had it included.

So yeah, $15 for PDAnet or $10 for easy tether should be worth paying for if they work. Guess I was spoiled too much by not paying much thus far (jumped on Amazon's 1 penny deal for this phone).

i found pdanet free in the market currently at 11 1/2 gb verizon told me 95% of there users dont use 2gb that why they got rid of unlimited data (thank god im grandfathered in) guess im not average lol
