Wirefly shows TV-out on the Inc.

Didn't CTIA declare micro usb as the standard charger for all phones from now?

Of course it's doubtful Apple would follow suit with how popular that stupid connector is. I can't tell you how many of those ipod connectors have broken on me. Worst. Design. Ever.

I don't see micro usb going away any time soon.

No idea if it's the standard. Probably since it's likely the cheapest.

Also, I think it's very possible smartphones will get a new plug fairly soon. It would have to change to convert to usb 3.0 (to have more pins) which would be worthwhile on phones as fast as they are now.

Wow, that looks really good. I'm impressed...I thought the TV out would be through the 3.5mm jack and not the USB port - I think that probably provides better quality.

I was surprised about that too. A little worried about the power issue as well, though.

Excellent point. Seems like a good application for a "Y" cable so you can pass the video out and power in at the same time.

That would be awesome if it were possible. Charge and play at the same time. :)

The micro USB plug on the phone does not look like a standard plug. I would assume that some new cable will be developed.

Yeah, I realized that this was possible when I saw the launch packet the first day. Very happily surprised, though! But there's a cable listed in the accessories. If we COULD buy it elsewhere (like monoprice or meritline), I'm sure we'd save about 85%!

WOOT! Found this:

1
USB 4-Pin to 3 x RCA Phono Lead Audio / Video AV Cable - eBay (item 330384002271 end time May-04-10 10:52:38 PDT)

Think it would work??

link FAIL ;)

Here the correct link -

1
USB 4-Pin to 3 x RCA Phono Lead Audio / Video AV Cable - eBay (item 330384002271 end time May-04-10 10:52:38 PDT)

Thanks for fixing the link. Not sure why it didn't work. But do you see any reason why this cable wouldn't work? It's probably 1/4 the cost (shipped) of buying through VZW directly and the launch packet says that VZW's won't be available until sometime post launch anyway. Thoughts?

Thanks for correcting the link. Can't figure out why it didn't work. :( But do you see any reason that this cable won't work? I'm sure it's about 1/4 the price of VZW's directly and according to the launch packet, it won't be available until sometime after launch anyway.
A quick search on ebay found it. One of these cables was in the box with my cannon digital camera

Thanks for correcting that link. I have no idea why it didn't work. Does anyone see a reason that this cable won't work? I'm sure it's about 1/4 the cost (shipped) of ordering direct through VZW and it's available NOW as opposed to VZW's cable which according to the launch packet will be available sometime post launch. Thoughts??

Since its taking the USB slot? How will the phone stayed charged? I doubt its being charged by the TV.

Excellent point. Seems like a good application for a "Y" cable so you can pass the video out and power in at the same time.

Excellent points. Why is everyone glossing over this?!

It's likely that the video-out is going to use an enormous amount of energy: if the phone isn't charging at the same time you may not even make it through a full movie without the phone dieing.....:(

Hmmm, looks like they also make one with a charging input and a headphone out. Ebay has some and Boxwave makes another but if the ones on Ebay will work, they seem to be the least expensive.

That's what I was thinking I had read as well. It's partly for consumer protection reasons and partly for environmental reasons. That way you don't have to buy a proprietary charger with every new phone, etc and the old proprietary chargers don't end up in landfills when their phones become obsolete. I think it's great to have a standard and hope more companies here in the US choose to do the same.

Thanks for posting the link!

This was discussed in another thread but I can't remember where...
Here is what was used in the video:
Amazon.com: OEM HTC TV Out Cable ACT100: Cell Phones & Service
As you can see, there is a port on the usb side of the cable to plug your charging cable into.

I'm really really glad to hear this. I was pretty bummed out when I thought you wouldn't be able to charge while using the video-out. Thanks for the relieving info Keith. :)
