basically it allows you to have a wireless charging pad that you can set your phone on. There is a chip in the phone itself that, when it connects with the charging pad, will allow the phone to start charging itself, No need to worry about plugging cords or anything else in.
A few years back, this tech popped up in best buy, but it was expensive, as you had to buy the charging pad, ad then aspecific battery pack for each specific device you owned. I am not sure they are still offering this.
With google's move into this market, I have to imagine that it will be only a matter of time before every new phone on the market sports this technology, allowing you to circumvent cords altogether.
Google will be selling a wireless charging puck.Thank you. I guess I remember something like that, saw it at Walmart. Never had a phone that could use it so I just gave it a cursory glance and then forgot about it. So the next question would be, where would we get one of these mats to charge the phone?
It has a standard microUSB port. The wireless charger is separate. Hopefully it's not too expensive.I have been trying to look at pictures, but does the Nexus 4 also have a microusb port? I use microusb in my car.
Hopefully everyone jumps on board with this so it becomes a standard across Android.

Yeah I had heard it was on the Qi standard. Is there any wireless charging products out there that aren't Qi or did everyone get onboard with it?
Yeah, I like the idea of wireless charging. If the battery life is as good as they say, then I wouldn't have to plug it in while out working. My current phone (LG Optimus M+) needs to be plugged in while I'm working just to have juice at home in the evenings.
Luckily for us this is already a standard. It's called the Qi (pronounced chee) standard, you can buy any charger in this standard and it'll work with the Nexus 4.
Engadget tested it with the Nokia Lumia charger and said it worked fine.
If your super keeno, you can find a list of compatible products on WPC's website

Has anyone been able to determine if the Palm TouchStone is Qi compatible? it's not listed, but it's so old that it seem unlikely that anyone would bother getting it certified. Right now you can buy one online for about $7.
I don't like the idea of more EMF around me.
The Palm TouchStone is NOT compatible. They use different mechanisms.

Oh well. I actually did some googling before I asked, I should have searched this site a little more first.
Thanks for the info and link.
I'd assume that the Pale Pre Touchstone will work on these. They are dirt cheap on ebay. Genuine Retail HP Palm Touchstone Charging Dock for Pre Pixi Veer Pre2 PRE3 | eBay
Hopefully no more than $25.What do you guys think Google is going to charge for the wireless charging orb?
Will it work through a case?
