Help Wireless Printer Server for printing from Thunderbolt?

Hi all. I was curious if anyone is using a wireless print server that allows your phone to recognize your printer (using some available printing app) for printing up photos and documents.T he printer servers I have seen require a computer using Windows or Apple OS, and don't support printing from a phone.

I am currently using the "Print" app available in the Market, and it works quite well (despite the reviews), but I have to have my Canon Selphy plugged into my laptop to print, which kind of defeats the purpose since I have to go through that extra step. I'd love to just have it plugged into the print server and access it through my wireless network.

I know I could send my photos to the laptop and print, but I'm curious to find out if there is any way of doing this with a print server. Also, I don't like the quality of the photo printing of the new wireless printers compared to the Selphy, which is why I haven't gone that route either. Thanks for your thoughts.

Many printer manufacturers have specific apps to let you print. The Brother app lets me print PDFs and pictures without having a computer hooked up to my printer.

Yeah, but Canon doesn't have their own. Even so, this printer isn't wireless, so I'm trying to find a wireless print server that wouldn't need a Windows or Mac OS machine that would allow the Thunderbolt to see it and use it wirelessly. I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist, but I thought I would ask. Thanks for your help.

Get "PrinterShare" from the market. The paid version is great & worth it in my opinion. Print to any printer thats around you....Check it out

They were offering the paid version free on Amazon back a few months ago. I like connecting to my secure wireless network at home and printing on most all of the printers on the network. There is a problem with printing on a particular Sharp printer in the office, but otherwise it works as advertised.

Recommend everyone read the reviews on this app BEFORE downloading. Not very good, appears to want access to personal info and you have to pay after a certain point. One review stated they wanted $10/month. Can anyone confirm this?

What Android app DOESN't access personal information...including GPS and messaging. Some apps even tell you in the EULA that they will send messaging 'in your name'.

If you want privacy..dont look to Google, Apple or any other vendor on the net. They make their money primarly on selling your data.

Can you be more specific? More than 1 app is being discussed....

I would also love to be able to print from my tbolt to my house printer wireless.

Search Printer Share in the market. It will come out w/ a bunch of different options. See if one applies to you. I use Printer Share, it's a paid app, and it works well. You may be able to use one of the manufacturers free apps if it applies to you.

Dude, relax.

The monthly fee gives you the ability to print to your printer from ANYWHERE, if I'm not mistaken... if you have internet access, you could theoretically print to your printer no matter where you are. I've used PrinterShare (or is it PrintShare?). Good app but if your printer isn't either wireless networkable or plugged into a wireless print-server, it doesn't help.

Xeno,

There are several hardware mfg's that offer wireless print servers that do not require a computer to operate. They usually have a list of compatible printers and if your printer is on it (and most of the time even if not) you plug it in and go. I know that Linksys and Belkin both have them and most of the office warehouse stores have them on the shelf. I used to use a linksys device on my old Epson and it worked flawlessly and anyone in the house could print to the printer regardless of the status of any device except the router. I killed my Epson and went back to a Wireless HP printer and it works well also. For both scenarios, I used PrinterShare from the market. If your wireless print server supports Google Cloud Printing, you and print from anywhere on the planet where you have network access. My new printer supports this and I quite frequently print things remotely. I wish I had never told my wife I could do that, there's nothing like being at the Gym and having your wife call and ask, "Can you print one of those forms for me?"

Anyway, just research your wireless print server choice carefully before purchase. I would say that Cloud Printing would be something that you would want these days.

Good Luck,
BigRedGonzo
