Root Wireless Tether app doesn't work--access control the problem?

Hey guys,

After doing a good amount of thread hunting and looking over the developer's website, i was wondering if anyone has been able to use wireless tether with access control enabled. While this isn't a huge deal since WEP encryption still works, i'd still like this feature since it's offered. I only use this app when I'm on campus and the building doesn't have wi-fi. If anyone has any suggestions let me know please (I've tried tinkering with all the settings including LAN settings).

On another note, i was wondering if anyone uses the TBH tether patch. I run fission and recently applied the TBH tether patch 1.0 found on the fission rom manager. Is there any way to test if the patch worked other than trying out the 3g hotspot and waiting for the verizon bill? I'm very cautious doing this because Verizon's pay-per-use charges are ridiculous. (got charged 160$ for one day's 3g data use because they messed up turning it back on my droid x that got replaced).

Any input would be appreciated

Who needs access control when you have WPA? ;) Besides, the kernel is missing a necessary option to that would enable access control.

I think this will do what you need, No Patch Necessary. You should actually unpatch. Then Enable 3G Mobile Hotspot to verify that you don't have the tethering service on your account(it will ask you to sign up). This will prevent your unfortunate situation from happening again:

I just rooted my X on Sunday and installed Wireless Tether 2.0.5 on Monday. Everything, including Access Control worked fine. I was surfing the net with my iPod Touch without any problems. Then this morning I received a notification that there was an update for Wireless Tether so I installed it. Now, when I run it, it says Access Control has been disabled. After reading the developers forum on code.google, it appears that access control never worked for the X, which is why they disabled it. So did I have one and only X that worked? Did 2.0.5 work for anyone else?

I do, and have not gotten any charge from them. If it is NOT working, it will divert you to the web page telling you to contact them to sign up for the $20 option... if it IS working, you just go where you were heading towards. What I like about it is it uses the standard hotspot software. I'm on the Fission ROM and Fission Manager has the hack (and the uninstall hack, as well as the hotspot manager APK) available in the listing of stuff to download and put into your install queue.

And if you're unaware that you have the service on your account while patched, and hit 10GB+?

Unpatch and check this out:

I tried to un-patch using the script on fission rom manager. I went to use the 3g hotspot and it didn't prompt me to sign up for the service (but still made a hotspot). In bootstrap it said it the un-patch was successful, so now i'm just going to stay away from it.

The update to Wireless Tether works fine enough for me. I'm glad it took away the access control because for some reason i couldn't find evidence ANYWHERE that that was the reason it wasn't working.
