Wireless Tether - safety issue

I use AVG to try to keep my phone safe. However AVG is saying that Wireless Tether is malicious. Anyone know anything about this?

It's probably because the app uses root access. I've used a couple of anti-virus apps on my phone and they've all marked my Superuser app as malicious (which we know is not). Wireless Tether is fine. When you're tethering, secure it using an encryption like you would secure the router of your home so no one sneaks onto your hotspot :)

Funny thing is that its the only thing that comes up. Superuser doesn't come up, neither does Z4root.

Its probably because it allows other devices to connect to your phone. As long as you know what devices are connected to the phone, you will be fine.

I use a password, that only me and my wife know. It just stuck me as odd, but you guys made it sound not so bad.

You should give lookout a shot. It rarely has any false positives plus a lot more functionality.

I'd scrap the anti-virus software altogether. The threat to Android is from social engineering, not programs that are traditionally thought of as viruses.

That might be fairly true today, but it won't be long before we see more and more phone platforms specifically targeted.
