Help Wireless tether started working

chisam14

Newbie
I noticed last night that wireless tether was working on my wifi (non rooted) xoom. I have not beenable to make this work previously. I left the app running on my incredible by accident and noticed I had a signal on my xoom driving down the road. I checked and was surfing nicely while the upload and dl were incrementing on my phone. Disconnected it when I got home and tried it several more times and it worked. I wasn't aware of any updates and didn't think this would ever work due to the ad-hoc issue

I thought "Wireless Tether" was for rooted phones. I also have an Incredible and would be interested in knowing how you got this to work.

It is only for rooted phones.

Edit: wireless tether still is not working for me, no big deal wifi tether by them is just as good.

My inc is rooted but my wifi xoom is not. Everybody said this wouldn't work on my xoom until I rooted it but it is now working somehow

clearly im slow. someone please correct me.

i have sprint wifihotspot on the evo. i turn it on and it becomes an access point.

i go to the xoom and have it sniff out the SSID of the evo hoptspot.

it finds it.. locks to it and connects (48 mbps).

xoom and evo are virgins.. stock non rooted.

now are we.. am i confusing what you all say as tethering? meaning are you all saying there is a program named "wireless tether" thats not working or are we using "wireless tether" to describe that the xoom cant connect using a mobile phone/mifi? :(

what am i missing??

Wireless tether is the name of the app, free tethering via ad hoc. (It does require root.)

The xoom cannot see ad hoc, I don't know how this guy got it to work considering I haven't seen anyone else using that for the xoom.... everyone I know switched to wifi tether, at least most ppl with SGS.
