Has anyone encountered any trouble maintaining a stable connection when wirelessly tethering with the Xoom, bluetooth and WiFi.
I have a Fujitsu laptop with WiFi and use a Asus bluetooth dongle. On my computer, I run Ubuntu 11 as the main OS and also have Windows Vista as a virtual machine.
Whenever I wirelessly tether, either in Ubuntu or Windows, bluetooth or WiFi, the connection is good initially and then degrades quickly -- timeouts, server not found, etc. I know it's not the signal because I live in Houston proper, we're well covered with 3G and 4G and my signal averages anywhere from -75dbm to -86dbm when I'm home. At first I thought it was the WiFi, so I switched to bluetooth and have the same issue.
The kicker is, having got fed up, I decided to try tethering with my iPhone. Via bluetooth, it still drops out from time to time, so could be an issue with interfering signals, the dongle, my computer, etc. However, via WiFi, smooth as a whistle. I've gone 8 hours straight with not a single error and consistent speed.
So what gives? Any insight as to what the problem could be? It has to be something with Motorola because I work for a wireless carrier and have had similar complaints with a variety of Motorola Android devices.
