With Android on the rise, do you think that Apple's iOS is dying?

Curiosity is what causes you to have so much resentment for the way people spend their own money?

Resentment? How? I'm looking to see if the generalizations are true or not, and to prove a theory generalizations exist for a reason. It has nothing to do with how they spend their money. Keep building straw houses.

You ever think the sweeping generalization of mac/apple users exists for a reason? Like all the people that say osx is more secure... they are computer illiterate.

People who think macs have better hardware,.(despite the opposite being true) are computer illiterate.

People who think photoshop runs better on a mac, are computer illiterate.

People who think iTunes is the only way to put media on a pmp, are computer illiterate.

People who believe any of steve jobs bullshit, are computer illiterate.

Look, I just described 99% of the Apple user base.
IPhone users must be losing their confidence because they are invading this forum at an ever alarming rate hmmm....

Screams resentment buddy.

No, that looks like a keen observation to me. But maybe you feel the resentment here as you may fall into one or more of those categories, thus making you computer illiterate.

I never claimed computer literacy. I, however, unlike you, don't care about proving that a certain group of people that I am not a part of are "computer literate" or not. It just seems like a massive waste of time to me.

And that's your personal preference. And I have mine.

It may be your personal preference to prove your theory that Mac users are computer illiterate, but the fact is you bet that between 90-99% of respondents to your question regarding the security of OSs would vote OSX; and the fact is they didn't. (although you were only proven wrong by 90-99%)

Instead of accepting you were as wrong as I, and others no doubt, expected you to be proved, you're trying to move the goal-posts and side step the facts.

And on the subject of generalisations, and your post-count, which is something you seem very proud of, and have used before to 'prove' how much better you are than another member here because of it's size; lets actually analyes it shall we;

Thanked Posts 264 (5.4%) 28 (5.8%)

Now I know you're the kinda guy who won't argue the facts IOWA, and there they are; while the amount of thanks we've received is proportionally equal, the number of thanks worthy post I've made appears higher then yours.

Now I don't think this means a great deal, but it's your criteria I'm using.

I know it's a generalisation, but; 'Quality not quantity'

Babe Ruth struck out a lot. Sometimes it takes a great many failures before you can hit the ball out of the ball park. Others are content to play it safe and take the easy single.

No because it would take an infinite amount of time before you could find anything interesting in all that junk. But with a finite number of people and good algorithms, we can get the good stuff very quickly.
That's why we use the internet today instead of AOL. Yes there's a lot of crap on the internet but it can be filtered out and the good stuff is so much worth it.

No?

You seem to be contradicting yourself; what exactly do you mean? If you're going to use analogies they're supposed to make your point more clear, not less clear and more confused.

It is, frankly, ridiculous to suggest that Mac users are computer illiterate. Many might be, but given how many PCs I've helped set up, there isn't exactly a shortage of PC-illiterates either. I've also seen people buying netbooks with Linux and being totally stumped at things like installing an application - yet, the stereotype would be that a Linux user would be some sort of computer-wiz.

Also, as has been pointed out, people use Macs for all sorts of development work, and is used for TV, video and print. These people are, for the most part, not novices.

And, you can still know a lot about something and opt for the nice easy option day to day. A Mac is simple, user friendly and that's why I now choose to use one at home as well as at work. I've still got a PC, but my custom-PC building and hacking days are well behind me. I haven't lost the skills, but I've simply made a choice.

A rally driver may still prefer to get into a nice BMW luxo-barge and cruise down the motorway in comfort, with cruise control on and no desire to get involved with driving at all but that doesn't mean s/he forgets how to drive!

So then I propose an experiment.

-first we need to define a set of questions, and criteria that would be considered computer literate.

-second we need to figure out a control group. A nuetral area where we can find users of all os's.

-third we need to agree to polling a certain number of people per operating system.

-fourth we need to share the results.

Anyone interested in conducting this experiment with me?

What isn't clear? Babe Ruth is a champion despite all his strike outs. The internet is a success despite all the crap out there. Iowa has some very interesting things to say even though he's in a bad mood most of the time. The most successful usually end up that way because they were not afraid of failing many times.

But if they have a problem with their mac, they have to go to the Apple Store. A PC owner has the opportunity to be in control and fix the problem himself. That doesn't mean that every (or even most) PC owner will realize that opportunity. But at least it is there for the taking and those that know their PC inside and out will be in good shape if they want to go into the IT field.

I repeated a theory that something was possible, you started your response saying 'No', you then made the point that using search engine technology you could find interesting content quicker than by not using such technology; I can't see that your point makes my theory incorrect??

You then go on to say that the internet is better today than AOL, seemingly making the argument that there is more worthy content on the net than on AOL, even if there is an awful lot of crap on the internet you can use the search engines to filter it; and then compare this seemingly to IOWA's posting style.

I'm still clear as to why you brought Babe Ruth into the conversation on iOS??

Due to the request of moderators, I'l keep this short.

But I will say this, I participate in a LOT of threads that have very little reason or rhyme, and furthermore the posts that make up the bulk of my post count are simple replies that would never really warrant a thanks. Let's compare this instead.

How many people have you helped vs me? Pretty sure I've helped more people than you.

How many PM's do you get per week about people loving the stuff you post? I get quite a few.(especially my tutorials and that educational writeuo of cdma vs gsm)

How many tutorials have you written to help people out?

How many videos have you made to help people out?

How many educational write ups have you done to help people learn about something new?

Before calling out the usefuless of someone on a forum, maybe you should make sure they are less useful than you are.

I'm just baffled as to why you'd dare argue with the most brilliant man on Earth in the first place.

*hugs IOWA plush toy*

...How many people have you helped vs me?...
Based on the figures proportionally the same amount, but if you're talking just pure numbers than you 'win'.

Of course you've post 10x as many posts that people didn't thank you for than I.

...How many PM's do you get per week about people loving the stuff you post?...
I receive very few PMs IOWA, so you 'win' again; a good proportion of the PMs I have had are abuse from you IOWA.

...How many tutorials have you written to help people out?

How many videos have you made to help people out?

How many educational write ups have you done to help people learn about something new?...
None, none and none IOWA, you win, win, win.

...Before calling out the usefuless of someone on a forum, maybe you should make sure they are less useful than you are.
IF I do that IOWA I will, you're the one in this thread that brought up how fantastic you are, you're the one tweaking the criteria to make sure you win; I've clearly stated I don't think the criteria means much, and where you've chosen criteria that you 'win' I've accepted that. Well done.

Due to the request of moderators, I'l keep this short...
Too short to answer the actual questions you've been asked I note, shame.

Still, why let actual facts and debate get in the way of claiming another hollow 'victory'.

IOWA, what part of my post are you referring to as false?

The bit where I accept you meaningless claims regarding postcounts etc.? or the bit about you not bothering to add anything meaningful to the debate by answering the questions you've been asked, and instead try to side-step the issues with silly claims?

If you're going to make a claim that I've said something is false then have the decency to back it up, because I see nowhere that I've made any false claim.
