Crazy how Samsung never want to mention bein google based now eh..

Was killin time really but ive only ever seen Nexus say "google" on them before.

And samsung seem to want thier own identity these days, the s3 ads never even mentioned it bein android based.
Can see them tryin to build themself thier own ecosystem and skin android more heavily.
I was just musing (is that the right word?)

Sorry for wasting forum space lol.... i really should start talkin to myself

Manufacturers put on the skins and their own features to distance themselves from the other manufacturers, not from Google.

No point spending your money to advertise the same features as tour competitors.

All I ever see is them advertising the bump transfer feature, and nearly any recent phone can do the same

You're right though. Usually its only Nexus devices that have the "with Google" on them. Pure android, no oem skin

my old htc hero for sprint (android with Sense).. had "with google" on the back

there have been many non-nexus with that on the back.

To a certain degree, they would ditch Android if they had something that really means being able to compete with all the other Android and iOS handsets. They have Bada, which I believe they are still working on. There are a few devices powered with Bada, you can have a look here: bada - Samsung's Smartphone Platform

What's keeping most manufacturers from developing their own OS is the fact that as of now, it would be very difficult to gain market-share with Android and iOS as rivals. Not to mention that Windows Phone 8 is out there too and even though it's a robust OS, it's still not taking off. Plus, it's not simple to develop an OS with great functions and features that would make others switch from iOS and (particularly) Android.

i think the hardest part for new comers to compete with: the amount of apps and devs..

microsoft.. they got the cash to force it.. to pump money into the dev market.

I think theyl stay android based enough to be allowed to have Gapps but my point really is in the two years or whatever that old phone in the pic is, they dont even mention google/android now, which is there perogative. Im fairly sure my s3 box didnt mention android version, just touchwiz, could be wrong.... as usual :)

Actually, at least the UK version, had a "screen protector" on it with all the logos of the various technology used, and Android's logo was right in the middle.

Dont think mine did but then again mine was an unwanted (unaffordable) gift from my fiance n she had been (tryin to) set it up mate lol :)
