Wondering how updates will be handled...

I wonder how they will handle updates to this tablet. Just thinking out loud, this will be the first Honeycomb 3.0 tablet so it will probably have some bugs that need to be worked out. So I can see a few updates coming for this device after launch. Normally they are pushed to devices via Verizon's network. But if i get one on launch day and only get one months worth of Verizon 3g and end it, will I get cut off from updates? Will we be able to download it via wifi from Verizon's site? Or will they force us to re-up with them for at least a month to get they update? While I feel nobody really knows the answers to these questions yet, was wonder what others thought...

Good point, however (just a guess) but because it has been noted by Google and Moto that it is a "pure google experience" I think any updates will come fast.

One BIG reason I'm considering the Xoom over anything else.
You and me both, I'm thinking that this will become the flagship for Googles Honeycomb versions, with that, I would think they would want as much feedback as possible from real users, not the over wealthy and gullible ones who stay on contract or have to keep re-upping. Let's hope that they (Google and Verizon) can cobble together a working non-network update format that will allow everyone to update. I can't imagine that they would want those who aren't on contract to have a crappy version of the flagship, that would just look bad for them.

even being the google chosen tablet will not get updates as fast as hackers. Has the nexus received 2.3? I remember it being delayed. Honestly, your best bet for staying up to date on the OS is an unlocked bootloader and XDA support

Along with the other tablet optimizations, I suspect Google has been forward thinking in the firmware update features of their new platform as well. Of course, only time will truly tell, but they are releasing the tablet knowing that there are updates in the work for it.

I wholeheartedly agree.... But what mechinism will they use to push these updates? Will you have to have a 3G connection? Will it be over WiFi? Or is it a file you DL and execute? I am sure many will get this and pay monthly for the 3G, but I want this as basically a wifi device. So will I be able to update without having to sign up for a month with Verizon? That is my concern. Just wondering out loud is all...

My Droid is on WiFi when I'm home and it has had no trouble getting notification of updates when they become available. So unless Verizon pushes a signal that the update is available through the voice radio this shouldn't be an issue.

I am fairly certain that whether you are getting yours and ONLY using it for a WiFi device or use both 3g/4g and WiFi you will get the update. Because of the development in the WiFi only version that has been posted in a thread on this site, there HAS to be a way to get the tabs updated no matter what version you choose. I am sure if you are hooked only to WiFi, an update will push through the system.

I can't see Google/VZW doing that to people that are paying that kind of money for their supposed flagship device.
