Root Wondering if rooting would help.....

I'm just wondering if rooting my SGTab (Sprint) would help in my efforts to get going with texting? I paid full price for this beast and would like to use it once in a while at least, for other things other than just browsing the internet....etc. I also have the HTC EVO 4G, which is rooted, and have successfully got the Tethering going, but this doesn't help me in my quest to do texting via the Samsung Galaxy Tab. I've read in these forums, and via google search, that it is possible to accomplish this via Google Voice, but in my experience in trying to get that going, it has not panned out very well (unsuccessful in other words). I would be willing to pay for an application to accomplish this, but my searching for the right one has been unfruitful as well. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks.

What kind of problems do you have when trying to use Google Voice for texting? I use it all the time and it works quite well.

I just got mine yesterday and noticed that I can't text while on wifi unless I use something like Google Voice, which works very well for me.

Well I signed up for the phone #, assigned it to my GT, downloaded an app flr texting but it just didn't want to work for some reason. Would appreciate any kind of input you care to present. I'm now on my second Tab because of other problems and would really like getting this texting going. Thanks.

Perhaps you could explain in detail how you got that set up and functioning, I tried but for some reason it just didn't work.

I also do not have a data plan on my tab so I installed GV to see if I could text that way with it. I got my GV phone #, and am able to send and receive txts with it, but I do have a few issues with it. When I set up my phone number I set it to my cell # so whenever I send/ receive a text on my pad I also get it on my phone. I also wish I could use Handcent since I really like it over GV. Anyone have any suggestions?
