Root Won't boot help!!!

i didnt ask for you to care about my feelings...i was just expressing them in general.

and my advice was solid, regardless of whether or not you were able to use it

but if you arent able to do a simple fix that many of us have done dozens of times because of the limitations of the hardware you have at your disposal...then my recommendation is to not root your phone again.

if you do, im sure you ll end up right back where you were.

I agree, I probably will.

That's why I am trying to figure out what CAUSED the problem. If you could help me out with that, it would be great.

Would leaving the /system directory r/w and not switching it back to r/o cause the problem.

no it wouldnt. our system is r/w be default.

and you absolutely cannot go anywhere with this phone without access to either heimdall or odin....EVERYONE BRICKS THIS PHONE at some point and z4mod hasnt cause anyone any issues from what ive gathered...other than it doesnt work half the time

you must have deleted somethign or touched a file you werent supposed to and it bootlooped you.

odin would have fixed this in 5 minutes...or less

it *shouldnt* but that doesnt mean it *didnt* playing with any files can cause bootloops, but if you have clockwork recovery and backups it doesnt matter.

if you dont have cwr which is only installable with the previously mentioned programs, than any change you make could be your last

again....without a backup....nothing you do is *safe*

like i said, what you did shouldnt have screwed you up, but if you cant restore in the event of a bootloop then you can't take the chance of playing around with anything.

and without cwr you cant flash update.zip files for themes/roms/kernels

you can push frameworks and such but that involves adb or terminal access which again without backups or the ability to restore is not recommended.
 
Okay, so.

I notice that Heimdall is like some sort of package that you have to use with a command line..

I know you obviously don't have a mac, but how exactly is heimdall used and worked?

i have yet to play around with it, so i cant give you an exact answer. but i know you have to input the commands manually whereas odin is just flashing files

Another problem.. not sure if you guys can give any advice, but:

For the Continuum banner, when you receive a Text Message, there is a notification in the banner that has a red badge saying you have a message.

When I downloaded a different SMS app to get more features than the stock messaging app, and got a message, I clicked on the notification, but the notification never goes away, even if I check the message, respond to the message, etc.

Does anyone know why this is or how it can be fixed?

wait do you have a fascinate & a continuum or just one? in any event from reading the continuum forums i know the ticker screen has issues...a lot of issues...maybe they can help you out there as we dont have that hardware

Yes the Continuum.
Yes it does have a lot.. hopefully they will fix that on the next update.

And are you talking about the Continuum forum on this website, correct?:eek:

ah..i was under the impression based upon the op that you had a fascinate like we do. the continuum does now have its own thread (although not a lot of action going on there)
 
Ok this may seem ******ed to some of you, I've been dealing with this issue for over 4 hours with mine. I have done no root's or flashing or anything. I was looking at pics with my wife, and then it wouldn't unlock and i had to take the battery out. When restarting, i couldn't get it to go past the boot screen. So, i cleared the cache partition, and still no luck. i really didn't want to do a factory reset on it, so i didn't. After several boot attempts, I put the battery back in as always, and tried to boot it again. This time, i held the phone for a few minutes instead of setting it down. Then i felt a little vibe. The screen never changed... I let it sit for a little bit then I tried something. I entered my lock code while totally blind to what i was doing. Guess what. It worked. The phone came back to life and everything is fine. Maybe I just got lucky, but I thought I'd add the info in case it may help someone else. Good luck to you all with this issue.:smokingsomb:
