wont connect to a tether device

I have the optimus elite using tether WiFi for root users. The wife has GS2 rooted running stock.Just wondering why in her WiFi it doesn't show up my tether on her list. All other devices I have work fine. The GS2 can't see it.It does see all other wifi though.Anyone have this trouble.

Android devices can't see ad-hoc networks by default, which is the only type of network the Elite can create. Try searching wpa_supplicant on xda for more info on how to get it working.

I tried that zip flash must be because I don't have a custom recovery on her phone and its running stock 4.0.4 I think. If I ran a custom ROM will it work?Thinking yes since I have a optimus v and it works fine.

You don't have to run a custom rom to get it working, but it does need to be rooted because wpa_supplicant.conf is a system file. You can use a file browser and go to /system/etc/wifi/ and copy wpa_supplicant.conf to your sd card for backup. Then copy over the modified wpa_supplicant.conf that you downloaded and change the permissions to -rw-r--r- and reboot.

Of course if the file you found uses a different method than changing wpa_supplicant, that won't be any help. Running a custom rom wouldn't hurt in any case.

Yeah I haven't looked into putting a recovery on it yet along with a ROM she's nervous about it lol every phone I've ever had has been rooted with a ROM just seems natural to me lol
