Help Won't turn on!

Hello: My Note 10.1 2014 was working fine today. I powered it off and two hours later it won't turn on. Tried plugging in the charger and it still won't turn on. I'd appreciate any suggestions before I contact Samsung. Thank you --

how long have you let it charge for? some phones need to be on the charger for 15-20 mins before powering up :)

Colchiro - THANK YOU. I stuck it out to 30 seconds and it came on. 100% charged. It never seemed to take this long before -- does this mean that something is wrong?

Again, thank you.

Maybe a bad app. It's called a SOD (sleep of death) and common on other devices.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you see it again, then the last few apps you installed would be suspect.

I have a P-605 and it won't turn on. The battery apparently went dead in my backpack. I charged it overnight, but the next morning it wouldn't turn on. Sometimes it shoes me a gray battery with a little looping arrow in it, like it's thinking about the battery, and it's flickering. Some other times it will show me the splash page like it's going to start, then it flickers, and then it goes back to the gray battery.

I've tried every trick I've read about so far. Holding the power button for > 30 sec, with and without the volume button, with and without having a finger on the screen, with and without being plugged in with the original cord...to the wall and to my computer. Nothing has helped. Now I don't even get the gray battery...it's 100% dead.

I contacted Samsung, but they are worthless on how to fix it, so I'm supposed to send it in. But Samsung doesn't support their products globally, only locally. Being an American with a Hong Kong version living in Tokyo means that no division of Samsung wants to touch it or help me, and I'd have to pay $200 bucks to get it fixed through the Amazon store I bought it from.

So if anybody has other ideas about fixing it, then I'm all ears. I haven't rooted it or opened it up, because I was worried about breaking it. But at this point it's already broke, so I'm very interested in putting a clean ROM on here (whether or not that might be part of a solution). The main thing for now is getting it to power up again.

Thanks in advance for your ideas and help.

First thing I'd do is to make sure your charger is OK. I know that if it's not delivering enough current, the charging circuits in the battery won't recognize it.

If it still won't turn on and/or charge ... or even recognize the charger, your battery could be the culprit. I'm going to assume it's either out of warranty or they won't accept it from your location. If you want to try and replace the battery yourself, watch this short video to see if it's something you can handle.

Looks like, at least from this company, the battery pack costs about $70 US. I should also mention that while it's a good guess your problem lies in the battery, it's not a guarantee that replacing it will fix it.

As it turns out, the whole problem was because of a faulty charger. I used a Jabra charger that goes to 1.8A (not quite the 2.0 of the original Samsung charger) and it started charging right away. The half-dozen 0.8-1.2A chargers I tried all produced....a huge waste of time.

So, let me just put this out there for the whole internet to see (info that I got from some random YouTube comment about this problem). There is a ton of different people saying different things about how long you have to hold which buttons to "wake" the battery. I don't know which, if any, of those are necessary to recover from a complete battery drain because I tried all of them before I saw any progress.

It seems that at least one necessary element to revive a completely dead battery is a charger that is providing close to 2.0A (and certainly more than 1.2A) of power flow to the device. The charger that came with it will work, but if you don't have it or it's broken, then a different charger that's just as strong should work. Also, not all USB->microUSB cords will deliver that much power even if the charger does.

And unlike a lot of other proposed "solutions" to the problem, there is a solid explanation behind this one. It apparently needs the ~2.0A to clear some circuit hurdle before delivering power to the battery.

...now to install a clean ROM on this bloated, laggy time sink.

Did you try holding down the power button for at least 30 seconds?
Thank you! I was despairing of getting it to ever power up. And that did it. Of course, I still don't know what caused the tablet to go into that state, as it was not more than half discharged.

My Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 won't turn on COMPLETELY, it only stops at the "blinking-Samsung" part. I've been restarting it for a couple of times and charging it to 100%. PLEASE HELP ME GUYS.

Thank You

Thanks a lot everyone for suggesting this method. I searched extensively on the issue, reset to factory settings, took the tab to Samsung service center (no help really as they dont accept device not bought in India for repairs), and then hit upon these posts.

Method that did not work:
- Charged the assumedly completely discharged tab for 1 hour
- Press the power button for 30 seconds
- Press the power button and keep a finger on the screen

What worked for me was this:
- Left the tab to be charged overnight
- Press the power button and keep tapping the screen during the 30 secs you are holding down the button

The screen backlight came on and showed the gray battery charging icon (but the charging status was still 0% though it was left on charge through the night). Then pressing power button for 5 sec booted up the tab, and recharging really started.

This was a big big relief as I would have had no other option than junking the costly tab as I could not have sent it back to UK for repair (I bought in on EBay from a seller who probably sources from UK/US).

Another lesson from this incident is to purchase costly devices from authorized India dealers only, else the device type does not show up in the Samsung service database and the service center wont even accept your device for inspection.

Now I still have to figure out the way for the original problem - WIFI is not turning on (forever remains in semigreen state), date/time setting is not retained and tab is getting heated up and discharging on its own in a matter of 2-3 hours.

Newly signed up member here and I am at a lost for fixes so, I am hoping that some of the resident experts can help me out because I'm seriously over trying to figure this out.

I've read countless threads regarding the power issues with various Galaxy Tablets and I've tried all of them with no success but, it also seems as if my problem may be a little different from the others.

When the tablet (Note 10.1 2014 edition) is connected to the charger with a full charge, it works fine and I can use it normally but, as soon as I unplug it (with 100% battery life indicated) it powers off. When I try to power it back on, all it does is flicker on and off constantly till it finally powers all the way off.

Sometimes it gets to the T-Mobile chime but, always goes back to start up mode. It does this several times and again, completely powers off again. I can then plug it back onto the charger and it works normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated and than you in advance.

ETA: I've done the power button + volume down and went through the root option but, it was stuck on that screen for over an hour so, I ended up just canceling that. I've also performed the power and finger on the screen trick with no success.

Ugh. That description is exactly what I'd expect to see if the battery fails. :( You're going to have to replace it. (the battery, not the tablet)

I am not endorsing this company, just showing you how it's done. ...

Thanks lunatic59, I was just coming back to add that I went to plug in my tablet and not even 2 hours since it's been unplugged after a full charge, it's completely dead. I plugged in in and the battery indicator (in off mode) shows that it was at 2% battery life.

Another thing that I will add is that everything was working perfect for the past year with the device and I only started having these issues when I updated it recently to the 5.1.1 software. Do you think that has anything to do with it?

Pressed the power button more than 30 seconds (both with tapping the screen and without doing it). But it is not moving ahead of 'blinking Samsung' logo. Please help me guys..

I have similar situation where my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition wifi version won't turn on. I have not used it over 6 months and thought the battery needs to be replaced so i ordered new Battery pack and also left speaker module which comes with ear phone and power volume strip. Installed both battery and module and tried to turn it on and it did turn on but as soon as the boot process was complete it shut down again. I unplug re plug the battery cables to make sure they are tight and still won't turn on.

I put it on charge overnight using original Samsung 2.0 adpater and cable , no indication of device getting charged after charging for over 12 hours.

When i plug the device to my laptop, it appears laptop is recognizing it as a usb device but since the driver were not installed i did not see it in my device manager but still no sign of device getting power and the screen is dead.

Any suggestions?

I have a new Android I-Tab, battery was 100% two hours ago when I unplugged it. It now presents itself as completely dead, it turned itself off and I cant turn it on.

Yes, I have this problem. However, the solution is relatively simple. You need to reseat the microSD card. For some reason, if the microSD is not properly seated, the device does not start.
