Now I'm :

ACE PVT ENG S-OFF

(Finally)

So, I was wondering , now that I did the thing I said I would do aaaaggges ago,
and I know I can change radios and the boot animation ... ( BTW how would I do this?)

What else can I do with my S-OFF 'd device?

Here is a guide on how to flash a radio... BEWARE - a bad radio flash WILL brick your phone.

It is not hard to flash a radio, but you MUST make sure that you have enough battery - I would say don't try it unless you have a fully charged battery, just to be sure that the thing will not run out of juice part way through (I think that this is about the only way to brick your phone)... the reason to have a charged battery is that it WILL NOT charge while you are in bootloader mode.

I will have a look for something on changing the boot animation and post it shortly :)

I'm not sure if you needed to have ENG S-Off to change the boot animation... I knew you would need to be rooted though. I have just found this guide on how to change the boot animation. The tutorial talks about a couple of different ways to do things... one is using Android SDK, one is by flashing a zip from recovery and the other (just as simple method) is using Root Explorer.

Personally, I think it may be worth just doing it using root explorer... I haven't actually gone down the boot animation changing route (I just leave whichever boot animation comes with the ROM that I put on my phone), but I think I may have a go at some point and think it is easier to just move things on the phone itself :)

For Boot animations mate, you could try an App called Rom Toolbox, there is a free, and paid version, (obviously i recommend paying for the pro version) and there is a load of boot animations on there,a dn it does all the installation and everything for you.;)

Pretty sure El Presidente said I would... or mabye for the splash screen or whatever.

Thanks for the link... I'll try it soon.
I would like to be changing radios...but am a little scared.... :o

As I said, it is easy to do, but you need to be sure that your battery is charged.

I've never changed radio and never had a problem :)

ok...

so copied and renamd the .zip file to /data/local...

when i reboot all that happens is the stock HTC image , and then just blackness afterwards... but i still manage to get into AR HD?

Anyone able to help?

+1, and really I would only suggest changing your radio if your signal is terrible, because you might change it and get worse reception :(

Right. I thought it affected performance and battery or are these consequences of bad signals?

Poor signal will reduce your battery life to some degree, yeah. Especially if you're losing the signal often and your phone has to find a tower to connect to again. I wouldn't have thought it would affect performance though.

I dont really lose signal that much... but I do find any 3G/HSPA connnection really slow...

So i assume that each radio is for a specific region?

what about 12.xx.26.10.04.03M?

Radio
--- With 6.3.x ROMs I strongly recommend flashing 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M radio ---
--- Using a "non matched" radio could have a negative effect on performance, battery life & signal strength ---

ROM Devs sometimes specify a radio to use in the thread where you download the ROM.

I believe it is related to how they code the ROM... I'm not sure that a radio is related to where you are in the country.

So what CD Plant was saying is that I could swap for better radio that matches the ROM better , but forsaking signal?

OR am I still missing the point? Will the updated radio be better ?

If my signal is fine ATM, should I not bother with radio changing?

One more thing : is reverting to full S-ON unrooted still easy enough to do when the time comes?

Thanks for introducing me to this app and indirectly to SassiBob!

If a ROM dev has suggested a radio that should be used in conjunction with their ROM, then it is best to use that radio, as it (the ROM) will have been put together with that radio in mind... this should mean that your phone should work better... this should mean that the signal would be improved (as I said, I have not bothered flashing a radio, so cannot confirm anything).

The thing to do would be ensure that you have a copy of your current radio (you should be able to find it somewhere on line) and if, once you've changed the radio, you find that it is worse, then you can just put the old one back on :)

To be honest, the difference between radios is very small. I don't think I've ever noticed any significant change after flashing one.

That's why we typically only recommend people bother if they run into problems with a particular radio.

No what i'm saying is that you could change the radio and the reception could be worse, but could be better, it depends on the radio. You are not forsaking signal, just you might end up worse off. How many bars do you usually get? What's your 3G speed like?

I mean I would only ever change mine if I had bad signal, otherwise I would just leave it as it is (which I have done)

atm 2 bars sitting in the study , which is near the front of the house....
Can't really remember internet, but I do recall not always getting s strong HSPA signal

DISCLAIMER
Flashing radio is A VERY RISKY OPERATION and may brick your device if something goes wrong; you may also not be able to flash a previous version if the newer one isn't performing well.

S-OFF bootloader is required to successfully flash any radio. The stock bootloader doesn't support fastboot commands.
Radio S-OFF is highly reccomended, expecially if you're willing to try the latest radio files (> 26.04.02.17). By being Radio S-OFF you'll have the chance to restore previous ROMs and Radio files.

That's for the Telus (Canadian) DHD, not sure if that matters or not but make sure it's compatible

Is there some sort of app that logs my signal during the day? Or is the bar on the battery use section enough?

I have rooted phone with ace hack method, installed rcmix rom few month with old radio. But, all the time I see some problems with signal and breaking calls... What I need to do to update radio?
I know there are many posts about that but it is confusing a little...
thanks.

there are many ways to update a radio. i personally suggest running a whole ruu for your carrier,so that you get the most up to date radio, hboot, and other firmware. IMO its not good to start mix-and-matching things, especially if youre still on the old firmware from the aahk downgrade ruu.

i am running the radio/hboot/firmware from the latest unbranded 2.3/sense 3.0 ruu. seems to work fine for me,but YMMV.

lots of info on radios and changing them in this thread:
