Welcome to Android Forums!
If you are asking about how to change a misspelled word added to a user dictionary on the phone, then you should go to menu>settings>Language & keyboard>User dictionary. If you are asking how to enable spell checking for text input, i would depend on which keyboard you are using.
You may find that the manufacturer has modified Android so that the menu options for one phone are not the same as the other. That is why it is important to pose questions like this in the forum for your specific phone or tablet model. If you are having difficulty finding it, just let us know what you are using and we can point you in the right direction.

Welcome, Jeffym, to the AndroidForums!
Yeah, there's a lot to get a handle on with Android--so many options and tweaks available, and they might be different for each manufacturer. Its a two-edged sword, of course--there's a price to be paid for all of this flexibility and options and that's a little bit of complexity.
But we've got a great group of folks here at AF that can try to help you...we may not know the answer ourselves, but we'll do the best we can.
Cheers!
