Workers at tmobile have to turn on phone before u leave the store?

So today i went into tmobile and purchased my note 2 and i asked if they not open the box and turn it on and i was told that they have to make sure the phone is functionable before letting the customer leave with it or they will be in trouble? So i was mad the worker took it out and put the battery and sim in there and powered it on then made a call to make sure it was working then turned it off and put it back in the box!

I just hated that because i like to take my new phone home and charge it up fully then turn it on and set it up myself cause i heard its not good for the the new battery.

But no, it isn't going to hurt your battery. These are newer technology batteries and most of the things you read were written about older batteries where you had to be sure to use it right

Having them test it n the store is probably a good thing. It won't damage the phone or the battery at all

I don't have T-Mobile, but at sprint they turn it on to activate it and check that it works as well.

I'd say this is probably pretty standard

I'm on Verizon, and the guy activates, and calls the programming number before they give it to you. I don't see why they wouldn't its just easier for then to do that instead of having to deal with it not working when you try to do it yourself.

When I got my nexus it was about 3/4 full charge and I used it the whole day until it died before I charged it fully

I bought a $1300 Herman Miller Embody computer chair. It took a month to receive at the store. I went and picked it up and got home and could not get the chair to adjust.

So... I had to go back to the store and have them pull a pin that I didn't know about.

The point is that sometimes its good to have this stuff taken care of in the store so that your time is not wasted once you get home.

Yes, it does kill the unboxing experience but anyone who has ever got home with a DOA device knows the painful feeling and would much prefer to have the issue take place in store than at home.

I'm on Tmo. They did pop in the battery and SIM and turn the device on but past that, they handed it over to me since you need to enter account info. No test calls were placed or anything. I suspect my being able to enter in my Google account info was more than enough for them.

(Oh, and that was my experience twice. Had to have the first GNote2 replaced when it went belly-up the next day.)

Would you rather take the phone home, have it not work and then have to go all the way back to the store? (And possibly be accused of tampering and then getting a problem trying to get a working phone?)

If you REALLY want to set it up, order it online and get it all sent to you ;P

Yeah. Personally I see nothing wrong with what they did. If you really wanted it pristine and untouched, you should ordered it online. Having gone through a couple hassles of borked phones right out of the box, I'd actually prefer they open it up, test it and make sure it's in perfect operational order before handing it to me/me handing over my credit card. God forbid you get one that had a screen with dead pixels on it. Try getting that return processed in a timely manner.

Spoiler........you won't.

Thats good customer service, you should be happy, other phone shops will be happy to get the sale and tell you to go away

Over In the UK I asked Tmobile not to open the box as my daughter wanted the pleasure of doing it herself. But in another shop they insisted on opening the box, as apparently they had a customer who went home with an unopened iphone, who came back two hours later and said when they had open the box the iphone wasn't in there. The shop had to give him another. iphone.

I agree with you about not wanting them to take it out of the box and all that. I don't know why, but that's one of my favorite parts about getting a new "toy". :P I bought my Note II on the internet, it shipped to me, and I was able to use Google Voice on my computer to call Sprint and have them set it up at my leisure. This was a better experience for me, and I think I'm probably going to be ordering my phones online from now on.

I think its good customer service. How mad would you be if you got it back and the screen at damaged or the battery was faulty, and you then had to wait a week whilst new stock arrived as the last 2 had been sold just after you picked yours up??

You can't do right for wrong for some people!
