Root Working cwm recovery

I have a 16Gb class 10u1 I have partitioned it in half for link 2. Half ext4 half fat 32. I have about 4Gb free.
Well, try clearing out your SD (copy everything off to your computer). It's possible you're running out of space.

I did that too. Really strange. I can backup and restore perfectly fine with twrp and touch. Just kinda sucks having to go back and forth to restore

Okay, stupid question here, but I want to make sure I do this right and not brick my phone. When using flashify do I flash the cwm1_bumped.img to boot or recovery? I was able to update to zv4 using the fastboot boot cwma1.img method, however I still need to update my radio to c8 and would like to skip the fastboot this time.

Also after flashing does that leave CWM in place or does it get wiped on reboot?

Recovery and yes. Use flashify to flash this recovery. In recovery flash the ROM, supersu, and/or radio. You should be able to get back to cwm with vol down + pwr during boot. Fastboot is not necessary after you have root.

Thanks....that worked...it appears I didn't have to re-activate like some people had to...was there an update that fixed this?

I did that and it was still giving me that error, so i wiped cach/dalvik. Still getting Network error with Hands Free Activation and any of the prl/profile options.

You don't really need Hands Free Activation as I reactivated without it. Is this possibly a weak signal issue? Is there an x on your signal bars in the status bar? Kinda strange that the dialer codes did not fix it. I recommend a full wipe everytime you flash new rom. It's possible your signal tower is just being fickle. But yea not really sure why you can't update the PRL.

I have 3 bars, and after getting the HFA to work, the LTE finally sticks...but yeah can't get either PRL/profile updates to work at all. I did a full wipe when I installed the ZV4 updated rom....do I need to do it again after installing radio?

My wife's phone was running donjuro's updated zv4 ROM and the c8 radio. It had the stock recovery and zv3 kernel. Everything was working fine.

Today I had the bright idea to flash this bumped cwm recovery and update the kernel to zv4. I zeroed laf, then flashed recovery and kernel in fastboot. Then I rebooted into recovery and reflashed the c8 radio from there as a "lazy" way to restore laf. Rebooted again and phone was stuck in cwm. No matter what I did, the phone would reboot into cwm. I tried factory reset, reflashing the ROM, reflashing the radio. Nothing seemed to work. I didn't have a full cwm backup that I could restore, so I was really stuck.

Fortunately flashing the radio had restored laf, so I still had access to download mode! To recover, I had to use download mode to go back to zv3 and start from scratch. This time I rebooted the phone into system between flashing the recovery, kernel, and radio. Everything worked fine this time. Not sure if the extra reboots made the difference, or maybe it was because the phone was "clean". I had done another "clean" phone earlier and didn't have any problems.

Once I got the phone working and updated again, then I was able to restore data from a cwm backup that I had made while stuck in cwm. That worked fine except it did not restore the home screen layouts for some reason.

Just thought I'd share this experience. Remember to make backups, especially if working with someone else's phone. :)

You didn't need to zero laf. You could flash cwm and kernel with Flashify, then radio with cwm.
Flashing the radio wouldn't have restored laf...that was probably restored by the factory reset.

Actually the radio does restore the laf partition.

Fastboot was simpler for me, but I understand that Flashify may be easier for others. Flashify might also be safer since you don't have to zero laf, so there is no risk of losing access to download mode.

Flashing the radio wouldn't have restored laf...

If you flash donjuro's radio.zip, it does restore laf. As he noted in his zv4 ROM thread:
"Note that the radio image contains multiple partitions and will reflash your laf partition"

Thanks guys.

I just downloaded it... First post.
Problem was my end, I added 5 GB to my internet and restarted my Computer, and then It downloaded just fine. (I hate Exede, we're getting fiber optics installed in my home town, but it's a couple more months till they're done)
