Working my way through the Eris

Hey, I got an Eris last Fri, and have been learning about it every chance I get. Right now my questions are down to about 3, 1. txt messages alerts, Where are they and how do I get them, right now my txt and email alert sounds,sound the same. 2,volume from TTS,and 3.missed call alerts, why are there no sounds for missed calls. Back to the volume for a second,the ringtone is loud it just seems to be anything coming from the inside of the phone you can hardly hear. Can anyone help me? If so thank you so much!!
