Would any of you consider...

GalaxyNexus

Android Enthusiast
Would any of you consider getting the Galaxy Note if it came out before the VZW smartphone return policy (Jan 15th)?

The more and more I think about the possibility of getting a 5.3 inch screen, the more I like it.

I'm surprised neither of you are impressed by the Microsoft to go, S- pen or any of that stuff. I just think the Note's screen blows the Nexus's screen out of the water.

In what way does it blow it out of the water? If your saying its the size I think many would disagree. The Nexus has the same resolution but higher ppi. The Note at its size starts to show off the pentile arrangement and that makes it inferior IMO. That and your starting to talk about not being pocketable. The Droid Razr and Galaxy Nexus are about as large a size as I am willing to go for a smartphone. Anything larger and you might as well get a 7" tablet.

What I love about the note is the programs that utilize the screen. Ie giant note pad which would be lost when I switch to root for an aosp from. The gnex however is already too big but ill get one anyways. My tbolt is the perfect size

Why? Just get a tablet and skyp and use that as your phone. Get tab pants to fit your new phone in your pocket and you're good as gold!

If there were a tablet I could use like a reguler phone (not the internet talk) you can bet I would be the first and not the only one to have one. ;)

2500 mAh battery and the S Pen are very intriguing.

What I'm more curious about is how the S Pen works and if I could use one with a GNex or Galaxy Tab.

I'd get one, although I can't see it coming to Verizon anytime soon. Heck, if the Note comes to AT&T before Verizon releases the Nexus, I would have a very difficult decision to make. I spent a nightmarish 12 months on Cingular/AT&T right around the time of the merger and swore I would never go back, but if VZW doesn't release this soon I would be VERY tempted if AT&T had the Note out.

I'd consider giving the Note a look. My initial impressions are that it looks very useful, and may not to big to use as a phone, but probably to big to carry around comfortably. And, as per other comments, I'd expect a higher resolution given the size of its display.

And of course the Note would be a better tablet with ICS installed.

I suspect, if the form factor proves to be valid and the sales a success, then the Note 2 will bring with it the screen and OS updates, and probably wider carrier adoption with the inclusion of LTE.

Still to be answered... will it fit in my pocket?

I wouldn't think about getting a Note, the Galaxy Nexus is difficult to use completely one handed at times. I would prefer to keep my GNex and a larger tablet. I'm not really sure what the note is for?

Not interested in anything microsoft, and a pen sounds like a step backwards. I thought the incredible was too big and I'm still trying to convince myself that the nexus is OK. I have a tablet at home I can use.

You think the Incredible was too big?

Surprised no one mentioned it yet, but the Note doesn't have the same resolution as the Nexus, it is actually higher though the lower ppi, though that shouldn't really matter.

The Galaxy Nexus resolution is 1280x720

While the Note resolution is 1280x800

So they are not actually the same resolution. :-)

I don't think there is a chance of the Note coming to US by the Jan 15th, Google/Verizon would not want it to overshadow Nexus release.

It'll be pointless for any Note owner to come to a Nexus forum and talk about it. So I shouldn't do this, I've been torn between these two devices, but here's my 2 cents from all the reading about them. I think people who used digitizer pen and tablets will prefer the Note, who wants tablet functionality + portability. Getting the Note will make it an ebook reader and note taker for me, so I can sell my tablet. As for pocketing, its in the designer mind when they designed the phone, youtube is your friend.

Some other things:
-microUSB slot, that pretty much make or break the deal. Also can be more convenience with flashing patches and rom.
-The Mali GPU in the Note and Galaxy SII is better than the older SGX in the Nexus. Also perhaps the Exynos CPU @ 1.4ghz, if you discount overclocking the Nexus. About the Note not being optimized as ICS, I am 110% certain there will be ICS officially and/or custom rom for the Note.
-I never thought camera megapixels means anything, but after comparison shots I prefer the 8MP one. But I can understand if you prefer shutter speed.
-Correct me if I am wrong, but with the Nexus if you use it as MHL output to the TV, then you can't connect OTG cable also to connect your portable harddrive to play HD movies. And since the (GSM) version only have limit of space it can only hold a few HD movies at a time. Also it'll be nicer to watch videos on a larger screen.
-My Galaxy SII GPS lock in time is long, I have a feeling it'll be the same with the Nexus. I watched a YouTube video of the Note using GLONASS, its lock in and response time are impressive. This is big for me, due to its screen and good 'GPS' functionality, it can also act as a GPS replacement. My SII doesn't quite cut it, especially poor locking.

I doubt having a bit more PPI is going bother me with that kind of resolution. When my 10" tablet is only 1280x800 and my 32" monitor is only 1920x1080.

I feel the main decider of this phone is not its capability, but really how much one care about fashion and how others in public think about you (also the burden of carrying a 5.3" device I guess). I'm pretty sure if the Note was 4" it would be as much interest as the Nexus, people overlooked it due to its size.

I was unsure of the Nexus vs Note, I ordered the Nexus and changed my mind. Guess I'll keep the Nexus due to 15% restocking fee and won't be home to reject the delivery. I don't think I'll be too disappointed with it though. I'm also keeping my eyes on the Meizu MX which will get a quadcore version next year, but I guess major manufacturers will release those too.

I would use an iPad, Galaxy Tab as a phone if they let me. :)
You can sort of do it with the Tab as the xda guys figures out way to do it, but I guess its more hassle. The capability is there, just need to be enabled, but then your carrier will block your IMEI from calling anyway.
