Would anyone consider this?

Nope. You will need a new back cover and your phone will be as heavy as a paper weight. I have the 1800 and it works great, lasts most power users a full day. If you need more than that, carry a spare battery with you or buy a car charger.
 
You will probably like the battery, I have the Seido 3500 and really like it. It makes the phone bulkier but I don't mind. I had trouble holding it before being so slim. I think someone wrote somewhere that the 3200 has a replacement back that matches the color of the Hero better than the black back that comes with the Sedio battery. Good luck.
 
I had an extended battery once for the hero. Its worked good, but god that thing was freakn UGLY so big.

Where can you get the 1800 at? Is it more powerful than the stock battery? No need for a new backing?
