would it technically be possible

To make an app that controls the sony ps3? It would be cool if I could control the dvd / bluray function my phone and also turn it on and off.

As the pd3 is blue tooth, it would seem technically possible. Guess sony would not allow it though.

On a side note, wish mobile makers would incorporate Ir tech too. Would be good to use smart phones as a dedicated remote control, all in one device :)

You could look into the SE Aino. I've personally never used it (and I have an Xbox anyway haha), but it has a feature called 'Remote Play' for PS3.

IR technology is so old hat. Mobile phones used to have ir sensors years ago. Way back before they even had colour screens. Its home entertainment av manufactures who need to catch up, not mobile phone manufactures needing to go backwards ;)

Good point, although a dedicated remote control function on a smart phone would be a used function by me. So much electrical equipment that I would love to control from one device.
