Root Would rooting help my lag problems?

Games are very laggy on my Ascend. Angry birds, paper toss, glow hockey ect...... to the point where they aren't even playable. The only app I have downloaded and kept so far has been Go Launcher EX.

Would rooting help at all? Or would it only be a slight difference and not even worth it?

I'm scared of rooting my phone and messing up and turning my phone into a brick. I also don't want to pay for an app to do it. Are their any free reliable ones?

If you root you can use an overclocking widget. It will make it slightly faster but, I'll be honest I just tried the Icarus 1.1 and it's WAY faster than even me pimping it out stock. As for being rooted, It's quite an easy procedure. All you've got to do is download the z4root. Go into the thread under all things rooted and read into it. This phone is actually incredibly hard to brick. I had the utmost of ease with it myself, Both in rooting and in putting on a custom rom. ^^. If you've got any questions, Please ask Jazz or any one of us here in the forum. Good luck!

I am new to all of this. What exactly is overclocking and all that you just mentioned except for z4root? XD

Max out your phones capabilities (600mhz). Though it only does a minor speed boost if you are on stock. I am using Icarus 1.1. This is a custom rom that you can choose to have. Thing is, You've got to be able to read directions step by step. Once you've got the hang of this, It becomes a lot easier. Just try downloading z4root to your SD card directory, Rooting your phone isn't very difficult (Step by step instructions under the all things root). Then read around on here about a few programs and ways to customize your phone. This will give you time to get comfortable with your phone and it's capabilities. After that you might decide to try a rom. Though as with all things, Make sure you are comfortable doing trying these! Go at your own speed, Your phone is going to be around for a while. ;)

Thank you for everything :D

Also. How do I stop getting notifications everytime I get an email in Gmail?

I don't even use Gmail, it's just a spam email account. I use Hotmail.

I have over clock widget but I never to what to set the max and minumim to. I have the minumum set at 32000 and the max set at the highest. Are these the settings we should use?

If the max is 600 Mhz then you do. If it is below that, Then you need to make sure it's set by your frequencies. I have the Overclocking widget. I do not have Setcpu or any of those other ones. I have it set at 245 the minimum and 600 the maximum. I've also got it set to where the frequency is different when the screen is off. When the screen is off both the minumum and maximum are set at 123. I've also got the update interval set for 10 seconds. This is the best setting I've used so far in terms of battery life and performance.

Your settings are identical to the way I have mine set (You said 123, you actually mean 128).

The only thing I do not have checked is the option: "Use your frequencies", because it says "CAUTION: MAYBE FREEZE YOUR PHONE!".

I'm lost on that one. Any idea's? Should I check it anyways?

If you check it. It allows you to change your frequency aka over clocking for the higher end.
