Root Would rooting help with this?

I'm kinda in Canada and we don't have verizon up here unfortunately, I did call them, they gave me the whole its an unlocked world phone thing so it should work and I'm not a customer so there's nothing more they can do.

Though I have noted two things, a) when I dial 611 it goes to verizon and not Bell, so I think there's a conflict there. B) when the phone is on and I call it, it gives me a busy signal, when its off however, it gives me the 'this person is unavailable at the moment', which means the network sees it and its a phone issue.

Does anyone know how I might change this setting it has to verizon somewhere in the programming? I have a feeling that this conflict is the cause of the problem.

I looked at the settings storage with sqlite and it appears that my phone is not set to accept a non-verizon sim, so maybe that's some of the problem. If you are rooted maybe you could download sqlite and make changes to the database. Attached is a screenshot of what I have.

I am rooted, though I'm not sure where settings storage, did you mean storage in the settings menu? Had a look there, didn't seem to indicate anything about the sim.

It does give me the 'this SIM card is from an unknown source' so I suspect what you're saying is the cause of the problem. Though I'm still trying to get sqlite to work.

Also I've been looking at my build.prop and there seems to be settings in there that might help solve this problem. Though ES file explorer won't let me save changes to it.

I wonder if anybody knows what the bell operator numeric is for the CDMA home operator.

There doesn't seem to be a gsm operator numeric, which might also be the problem

Also been reading about patches for GSM, one called radiocomm I think, though I have no experiences with those.

I'll fix that screen shot when I can get to my computer at home. Using sqlite I scrolled down to settings storage. Its one of the choices in that menu.

@mtlguy...

I took the SIM card out of my brother's AT&T iPhone today and put it into my Commando and had the exact same experience that you did. This was a known working SIM. My phone would place calls without issue, AT&T was displayed on the windowshade. I had no data, but he was over his data allotment for this month so that might be why.

Calls to *611 went to Verizon, incoming calls went to voicemail. Obviously its a settings issue, but until someone discovers the hidden menu you are pretty much SOL. Wish I had better news. It is interesting that the phone is not blocked for domestic GSM carriers, but that doesn't help you one bit.

I'm in the same boat as you, I bought this phone as a second phone and exactly the same issue. I've tried with three different sim cards, three different countries no change at all, device reject incoming calls, if you check logcat it'll show you that PhoneUtils app is rejecting the call right away.
I'm not a vzw customer so I've never used this phone in a CDMA network but they should fix this since they promise the phone should work on any gsm network. We can share info about what I have done so far but I'm loosing faith, we need a dev here.
The recovery does not make a full restore it just clear some settings and destroy sd card data, but that's it. So if we really messed up the system files and no custom recovery and no stock rom to flash.....

@RJGLENN
I tried editing settings database using sqlite editor, but it didn't allow me. It says database is locked. I tried editing database in my laptop and then replacing online database using root explorer, but after a restart I got bootloops.
There is two lines that seems very promising, the non vzw sim one and other showing "no min device enable incoming call".
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Bootloops... I wish I had more information. I have used all the information I could find on the internet to try and adapt stuff from other phones to make this thing work with another carrier's sim, but so far no luck. This phone, like it's predecessor, is truly unique.

yep, bootloops, it stays at verizon white splash screen undefinitely. I just did adb reboot recovery and then everything went back ok. I believe the settings database is locked and just the settings app could access it, even it is possible that maybe a flag is preventing it from being opened and edited from other app, like in this case i am using sqlite editor.
I tried also replacing the phone apk and phone odex using the one from CA201L and no luck. Phone bootlooped the same, stayed at vzw white splash.
Do you have any other idea?

Rjglenn thanks for the info.

To enable Programming Mode on this phone try this:
add this line to the build.prop using buildprop editor from play store:

Persist.sys.hiddenmenu_enabled=1

then reboot.

After reboot dial ##7764726 send

It will prompt for a password, use:000000

and you gonna have programming mode too not very useful, but at least another hidden menu available.

BTW, to disable the non verizon sim pop up I found that you could disable it freezing SystemUI app using titanium. Problem is you also loose wallpaper picture. It just get black.
