I checked about 30 minutes ago and my phone is still downloading. It is on WiFi, but download OTA may come in on AT&T and I am in a 2G edge area. It says "communication in progress".

Did you get to the Device Manager where it gives you the choice of "Resume Update" or "Check for update"? Or are you stuck before that?
If you are actually downloading an update you should be able to resume it later.
From software update you hit check for update.

I figure most will get some kind of message when there is an update available, so no need to check it.
I read somewhere that the iPhone update was a push but you could get it before your phone got the push by checking for an update.
Anyone know if that was true? Any iPhone trolls reading?
Samsung may be different.
Not a troll but a recent convert. The iphones updates were managed by itunes. You could check, or wait for it to check automagically. I really wish there was some sort of s/w available for this samsung... Almost a deal breaker, no matter what I do to my 3g or 2g, I can do a dfu restore and return it to factory original settings(or apple). I REALLY wish I had that safety net available on my captivate...

Dig around in the app marketplace for an app called ROM Manager. From there, you can create a backup of your phone's rom that can be installed from the recovery screen. I haven't tested it yet (no need, tg), but that's what I've been told works.
I think you have to root your phone to use the ROM manager - but I could be wrong.

Mine said it Failed to connect to the AT&T Server, and then I went to try again and gave me the try again in 24 hours bullshit. What a crock.

We will all know at the same time because we will receive notification from AT&T that an OTA update is available -- not because of this forum.

I just don't see it happening this week at all. I am more skeptical now than before. It just seems like AT&T or Samsung would give us some sort of confirmation if it was true. I mean they are pushing this phone, it seems like if they were smart, they would also put some press on fixes to show they care about this phone and want it to succeed.
I don't think that is true... They will roll it out to people slowly to keep their servers from being overloaded. They won't have the resources to have everyone download the update at the same time...
