Specifically on T-Mobile's network which is what I plan on getting. I want the UK version since only that one is black. I plan on buying it unlocked/off contract and using it with T-mo's monthly 4G plan.
I don't have time to check specs at the moment, but as the US 4g bands are not licensed for that use in the UK it's very unlikely that 4g would work (in fact I doubt the UK phone has the hardware). 2g certainly will, I'd have to check for 3g.

I bought the black HTC One S, which I believe was the French model, and have been using it on T-Mobile in the US. I haven't been able to access the 4g network though. I've been on the edge network the whole time.
The UK One S currently can only use 2g speeds on T-Mobile. It's not compatible with he 1700 MHz band that T-Mobile USA uses for 4g. Later this year it might work once T-Mobile expands its 4G network to the 1900mhz band that most of the world uses.
To be honest, you wont be able to use UK version of One S in the USA as UK models are only:
GSM 850/900/1800/1900
3G Network HSDPA 850/900/2100
no 4G or LTE.
