I went from Iphone 3gs to captivate.
At first the captivate was choppy, laggy, and froze from time to time and I sometimes wish my 3GS didn't break. When I ran quadrant my score was only around 890 which is behind nexus s, droid x, etc. After flashing to serendipity ROM my quadrant score almost doubled to 1635 and is now freaking smooth and fast. I love my phone now.

Can I ask you a question, so far I've got up to the rooting stage and have just left it at that with a speedboost with the one click lag fix. Anywaay, I was thinking of serendipity just wanted to know if it'll replace the froyo 2.2 start up screen and all that?

I will recommend it now with 2.2 froyo and root to enable wi-fi sharing. Its the best phone so far. I was sold on the AMOLED screen initially.

yeah it replaces the froyo 2.2 start up screen.
the interface looks more like gingerbread.
everything is smoother, cleaner, faster.
i would definitely recommend it.
it's pretty easy flashing ROMs so if you don't like it then you can always go back to what your android was before.

I would change the question to "Would you at this time recommend any Samsung Android phone?" My answer would be no, not based on what happened with the Galaxy S and the GPS problem which, speaking as a QA Engineer, is something Samsung QA should have caught and put a stop ship on the whole Galaxy S line until they could flash a new ROM with the fix in the phone before it shipped. The Galaxy S never should have gone out in that condition and you can bet your ass there were people at Samsung who knew this problem existed.

And then there was the super long wait for Froyo to come out. Those two issues alone are enough for me to tell anyone who asks me about what Android phone to buy to tell them not to buy Samsung until they have a track record that demonstrates both an attention to Quality as a concept and the ability to properly put out updates in a timely manner. What we are currently experiencing with Samsung Android products are closer to what we see in the PC Game market where they ship out a game riddled with bugs and many people have to wait for a patch to come out before they can play it. It should not be the defacto expectation that the phone you purchase will require you to wait eight months to get your handset working properly.

Well said. I'd like to replace my previous post with a carbon copy of yours. Thanks.

I've always enjoyed mine, and now it's even better. I was lucky since from day one, I didn't have the same problems many users did. And I've had it since release day.

I just got a new HTC Inspire 4G, it's pretty outstanding also. However the Captivate still has the best looking display. Too bad supply is constrained, it would really be terrific on the Inspire.
