Would you upgrade from an S3 or S4 for this?

I've heard talk about the s6... Any word on that? Or perhaps that was complete nonsense

Complete nonsense most likely, especially given that the S5 has only just launched. Wasn't a KIRF was it? - there's a few "S6" knock-offs around.

As for upgrading from an S4 to an S5, probably not, and not if you got to pay full retail, and many S4s are probably subject to carrier contracts anyway and therefore not eligible for upgrade yet.

Ok, well since it's been a few weeks and I'm thinking a bit more logical now about smashing my new iPhone 5s, from max razr, the one thing that I love about the iPhone is their camera lens. It's like a 16mm lens - which interprets to a wider angle than that of most standard android phones. I say standard because, well we all know we can carry around some bulky magnetic optical lens in our pocket, but come on... Who wants the standard 28 or 35mm lens. It shows very little optically. it looks cheap - it's useless.
On the other hand, I saw a YouTube video of the s5 being reviewed at a convention and it appeared to have a great looking lens, like the iPhones - sorry, but there is very little that iPhone has over android manufactures... That's why I don't want to go back to my razr Maxx, even tho I love how function-able it is. Can't stand the narrow camera angle... You're less able to show others what you're looking at.
Excuse my rant, but we'd all like to see the shots that both the s4 and s5 are able to take, both close up and wide open shots. Perhaps American, European, and other models should be noted.
At this point, I can't see myself selling my iPhone to go back to my razr for any amount of time, or even now, to fork over $300 to sign a new contract with the s5 - but would I commit to dive into the less expensive s4? I don't know... Seems to be a very capable & largely community supported device. How's the camera angle?
Anyone?

The waterproofing is the biggest reason I'm upgrading. That's a real game changer for me because it will fundamentally change where and when I can use my phone.

The camera is second, but according to Anandtech, there are significant improvements including some low light samples that were usable on the S5 but unusable on the S4.

Then again, I don't have to break my contract to upgrade, so YMMV.

FYI Sony were first with waterproofing as standard on flagship devices, also the new Xperia Z2 offers better water protection than the Galaxy S5.

Does the s5 (s4) have the ability to take voice commands such as "wake me up in 2 hours" or "wake me up at 6:30"?
I like that feature on my opposing device... Automation at its finest when you're dead tired.
Anyone? S4?

Yes, you can do that with S-Voice and Google Now.

Gotta love competition. Google has slain the proverbial giant. Apple thinks they have everything because they have a great history. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has experienced their arrogant attitudes in customer service. That includes all iPhone owners, too.
I'm sure the great Jobs is turning in his grave. "Innovation? Na, our name makes us cool".

Just a question for you tho, how much do u utilize your note 3? I'm considering an upgrade to the s4 from my maxx, but think that the n3 might be just as good... but the size! How do you carry that thing around? Do u have purse?

My wife is flying a Note 3 in an Otterbox Defender (upgraded from an S2 in a clamshell). Carries it in a pocket, with no real troubles.

She was put off by the size for about a day or two, then got used to it

I switched from the 3 mainly for the camera and faster processor. Both are currently exceeding my expectations and battery life is much improved 💚💚

I moved up from the S4 for water resistance and improved camera. But I'm totally sold on the fingerprint scanner (works like a charm if you set it up properly). And it's noticeably faster - SwiftKey flies on the S5.

The camera is definitely better, and live HDR mode is a worthwhile addition. The entire camera UI has been redesigned and is much easier to use.

Even little things like the floating toolbox are great additions. I like activating it when I'm in a situation where I know I'll be taking pictures and want to jump to the camera from any screen.

I'm loving the S5 way more than the S4. That phone was solid but unexciting. The S5 is bringing back memories of the S2.
